03/26/07 Hey guys,You‘ve probably heard that Calvert DeForest, also known as Larry ‘Bud‘ Melman, passed away the other day. We‘ve been thinking about him and how cool he was. We had always been fans of his from watching him on the David
Letterman show, and we asked him to come down to the studio back when we were making Americana and record some one liners for us. Some of this stuff did end up on the record or elsewhere…
Anyway, we went back and found a tape of the session and it‘s pretty great so we decided to put it up for your enjoyment. This is us in the studio with Cal, you can hear me at the beginning talking to him about the lines that we‘ve made up for him to say, and you can also hear his ‘guy‘ coaching him through the lines too. Just to set this up, the first bit is us getting him to do a take-off of the classic ‘poker? I don‘t even know her‘ joke, updated to ‘sphincter? I don‘t even know her.” A little long, but so rad we had to share it with you.
