Free ipods and digital cameras?!!

You may have heard of sites on the internet offering stuff like free ipods and digital cameras. And though it takes a small bit of effort to get them, these sites are legitimate. Basically how they work is, you join the service, sign up for some random shitty offer that you can cancel shortly after, get a few people to do the same ("referrals"), and the company will send you your free crap. They're able to do this because most people don't end up referring enough people, and thus the company doesn't have to send out the free crap.

Getting referrals can be tough, but there are these things called "conga lines" that make the process much, much easier, as 'net users are able to help each other get these referrals. I have joined a couple of these, they're both fairly new so if you join soon you'll get a good spot in the "line":

The more people join, the tougher it is to get a free iPod. Which means that since there are a few hundred thousand people joined already, your chances of getting one are minimal.

In other words, it's not exactly a scam, but sort of like one. Only around 200 iPods have been sent out so far according to wired.com. And that's not a lot.
