Hey does anyone know of a good Bit Torrent program that can replace Bitcomet? It has to be fast and not banned from certain trackers.
I use BitLord, works perfectly.

Thanks I'll take a look at it.

Don't use anything starting with Bit (BitLord, BitTornado, etc.), because they're banned on most trackers...and BitComet is the worst!
Azureus is the best of all. I strongly recommend it.
Also, thanks for getting me into torrents in the first place, Ash!

I just stuck with BitTorrent, and to be honest I've never had a problem.

Neither have I. No problems whatsoever.

I really haven't tried too many, but I would quite possibly use it just for the frog icons.

There's a Mac Azureus client? I missed that all this time? The old bit torrent client was alright, then when I downloaded a newer one, it had no bandwith throttling at all. I've been using tomato torrent, which has been alright.

Yup, there's Azureus for Mac! I keep hearing good things about µTorrent, but that one isn't available on Mac, so I stuck with Azureus. Tomato Torrent seemed weird to me when I tried it out.
Awsome, I'm so going to try it out. Found the page and am downloading it now.

azureus is written in java, so it should be cross platform. the original bittorrent client is written in python so it should be too.

Can someone tell me how torrents work, exactly?

how detailed do you want? baaaaaasically, the tracker keeps track of who's downloading what files. if user x is downloading file y, it'll check what other users have/are downloading file y, and then give user x that list, and user x will ask all those users for little chunks of file y that he doesn't have yet. etc.

I don't know how to use/download torrents. I have a router, and I've heard you have to do something different for that situation.
Like, how do you even download a client and use that or whatever.

oh...
ok, .torrent files basically just have a file name and a tracker. they tell your client how to get the file you want. so what you do is get a client--any will do, but obviously some have more features, different interfaces, etc. open the .torrent file in your client, and it'll start downloading the file. basically, that's all you need to do. if you've got a router, it will probably be slow at this point (but should work at least somewhat). your client will have a range of ports it uses to download through, and what you need to do at this point is log into your router (http://192.168.1.1 probably) and find some option for port redirection. my linksys calls it "applications & gaming" with a "port range forwarding" option below that. in there, you just need to tell the router that all traffic it gets to that range of ports your client uses should go directly to your computer. so open up a command window and punch in "ipconfig" to get your pc's internal ip address and tell the router that that's the ip you want all traffic to those ports to go to. it should be pretty easy when you're actually looking at the screen.

try admin as the password. I'm assuming http://192.168.1.1 worked.
EDIT: admin not administrator

You probably don't have to do that.

default user/password? try user:"admin", pass:""... or find the documentation for the router... or google its brand and "default password".

Bah, my dad's out of town and I don't know where he keeps all of the information. But alright, I'll try that when he gets back tomorrow afternoon.
Edit: do you absolutely have to do that?

you don't *have* to do it. it'll probably work, just be slower than bittorrent would normally be without the port forwarding set up.

When I tried it without forwarding my ports, I could barely get 1kb/s.

I'll go ahead and try it without and see how it goes.

jeez. i've done it without at my place. it takes a while for them to get started sometimes, but i get upwards of my max connection speed after a while.
