I need my bass guitar to sound synthy

Well, yes. I can mimic a keyboard as much as I can from a playing-style standpoint, but in terms of changing the actual sound, it would be a pedal-type situation.

I have an amp that has a setting that makes it synthlike.

Other than something like that I really can't think of anything that would work too well. Keep the tone up, that helps.

Would putting distortion on it help? I'm trying to imagine a bass with distortion, and it sounds like it might be kinda synthy, but I'm completely unsure.

I actually play my bass with a digitech bass distortion pedal all the time, but I can affirm that it definitely doesn't sound synthy. Not a bit.
