Ok. So, I just bought a video iPod. There is a dvd I want to put onto my iPod. How would I go about getting it onto my computer? Do I need some kind of special program? Windows Media Player has a "rip" option, but it says it's for audio cds. ummm...help?
I use DVD decrypter (http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/) to rip DVD's to my computer. Works perfectly.
Alternatively I use DVD-Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html), it automaticly shrinks it to fit on a 4.7GB disc.

thanks, Tijs! do you know how many GB a 2 hour dvd might be? roughly?
I'd say it'd fit perfectly on a 4.7GB. Depending on the quality of course. Basic rule I usually follow is
4.7GB = 2 hours
9.4GB = 4 hours (double sided/dual layer DVD)
But 4 hours on a 4.7GB disc usually looks quite alright too.

ok, so, i downloaded that program and decrypted the dvd. it saved to a folder on my computer. there are a ton of files...i guess it breaks the dvd up into pieces? what files would i add to itunes? and will it play as one whole thing or in pieces?
Bunch of IFO, NFO and VOB files, right? VOB being the bigger files, containing the audio and video. Well, that's the DVD. The biggest file(s) is/are probably 0.99GB.
I don't have an experience with aniPod video, so you'd have to check the manual. If the VOB files at themselves don't work, try including the other files and put them in a directory called 'video_ts'.

no, the ipod will only play files in a particular format, you'll have to convert.
read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_ipod , it links to some step-by-step guides.
