View Full Version : Japanese and other stuff
I'm looking for Japanese music. It can be anything pop or rock. I honestly dont even know where to look, or how to pick names. General recommendations on how to find music of that kind would be appriciated as well.
I also look for music of the following bands:
Brazilian Girls
Goldrush
Poni Hoax
OMFO
Mountaineer
Virginia Jetzt!
Arctic Monkeys
Leash
Skywards
Tele
Razorlight
The Pipettes
any mp3 would be appriciated.
please and thank you!

Do you mean Puffy AmiYumi?
A friend of mine was/is crazy about Hyde. She let me listen to some of his music, I can't remember it very well but I thought it was ok.
Quick Google search:
http://www.hyde.com
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_(singer)
edit: hyde.com is all Japanese and stuff...
Thanks Tijs! I'll check it out now.

The only Japanese music I know is from games.
Well, you said anything.
How about a game music inspired, Japanese rock band?

I know of a few Japanese bands, but the only thing that's coming to mind at the moment is Tokyo Jihen.

When I think of more, I'll let you know.
mrconeman - I checked both out (they took very long to load, I only heard like 30secs) and I really like both! I'd appriciate it a lot if you could upload it for me ;D
Professor Chaos - downloading! I'll tell you what I think in a bit.
Tijs - LimeWire is full of shit and wont find anything, so I'm now looking for the band he's in. :/

Uploading a little compilation of Piano/rock/orchestral songs now, theres only about 5 or 6 tracks in there, but I'll upload more if you hear these and are still interested.
Tijs - LimeWire is full of shit and wont find anything, so I'm now looking for the band he's in. :/According to the wikipedia article I posted he's in a band called L'Arc~en~Ciel (http://www.larc-en-ciel.com/).
Yeah I know, I meant I tried to download their stuff. But that's not all that easy either, haha.
Ah like that, let me give you a hand then. I'm getting curious myself too.
I found one downloadable song, then it turned out to be a completely different song with the wrong title. hahaha.
Here we go:
Hyde - Evergreen (http://naffiss.com/ruby/03-hyde-evergreen-jrp.mp3) [6.4mb]
Hyde - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (http://naffiss.com/ruby/Hyde%20-%20Lucy%20in%20the%20Sky%20with%20Diamonds.mp3) [6.0mb]
L'Arc~en~Ciel - Hitomi No Juunin (http://naffiss.com/ruby/9.%20l%5c'arc%20en%20ciel%20-%20hitomi%20no%20juunin.mp3) [8.1mb]
L'Arc~en~Ciel - Anemone (http://naffiss.com/ruby/L%5c'Arc~en~Ciel%20-%20Anemone%20PV.mpg) [video: 78.7mb]
L'Arc~en~Ciel - Dive to Blue (http://naffiss.com/ruby/L%5c'Arc~en~Ciel%20-%20Dive%20to%20Blue%20PV.mpg) [video: 58.5mb]
L'Arc~en~Ciel - New World (http://naffiss.com/ruby/L%5c'Arc~en~Ciel%20-%20New%20World%20+%20Talk%20(Utaban%202005%5b1%5d. 07.07).avi) [video: 111mb]
But I'm thinking you want the lyrics to be Japanes too.
edit: woops, replied instead of edited.
wtf? How do you always do that?
Downloading now and being a little hyper.
Oh...none of them are in Japanese? Well if the music is good I'll still like it!
Well some of the titles are in English, so I guess the lyrics of those songs are in English too, I'll search some more.

Oh my god. J-Rock bands. The only good one listed so far is Galneryus. Check them out, Syu is a fucking GOD. He shreds, man. They're not really anything like Dragonforce though, they're better. Probably more similar to Sonata Arctica or Stratovarius or whatever.
All of these bands are pretty-much essential if you want to get into J-Rock (or J-Metal in some cases):
- Guitar Wolf (Amazing amazing rock band. Did I mention amazing? Also, they're amazing)
- Sex Machineguns (You. Will. Dieoflaughter. A promise. Dieoflaughter being all one word, they're just THAT cool.)
- Japan X (Like...the AC~DC or Black Sabbath or Maiden of Japan. They're the classic. Amazing epic metal band with some occasional orchestral stuff too.)
Check those three out and you'll die happy. Sex Machineguns would be my favourite of the bunch (they're not a "comedy" metal band as such, but they're just fun - don't take themselves too seriously, and play some ultra-fast entertaining catchy speed-metal), but all three are great.
P.S. None of these bands are like "psycho scream/grunt/groan metal" or anything, so don't worry about that. They're all kinda mainstream and accessible and cool, without the depressing yelling bullshit most Euro-metal bands seem to have.

Tizz - The download for the Artic Monkeys has finished. I got their name from a weird (free) magazine and thought I'd check them out. Well, I listened to a few songs of theirs now and I think it was a good decision to check them out :] How did you get to know them?
mrconeman - I downloaded the file, thanks ;D
OMG my friend is into Jrock. Her jrock friends scare the shit out of me.
Whatever you do, Nina, promise me you won't become a bizarre goth-looking jrock maniac in whose speech every second word is Japanese. :/

Razorlight (http://download.yousendit.com/C7D8018714819E5D)
What I noticed about The Pipettes at first glace was the titles of the songs. A little lol-worthy ;P I listened to two songs so far, I'm liking them. They sound like a good, but average band.
Downloading Razorlight now. Since when do you like them?
Haruta Kanata (http://www.w-t-f.nl/Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Haruta Kanata.mp3)

I actually didn't listen to it myself yet, lolz. I was planning on downloading their album this week, and then I saw you wanted it, so I downloaded it right away, and uploaded it for you, but didn't have a chance to listen!
Mad Capsule Markets - P.O.P. (http://download.yousendit.com/230098950A18177D) one of their ealier albums, mainly in Japanese, not really any of the synths/samples and such that's in their later ones which also feature a lot more English.
X Japan - Dahlia (http://download.yousendit.com/F6EE4B2B0D55C443) Called X until they put stuff out in the US and had to add the X because of X from LA. Last studio album they released. Mixed English/Japanese.
Does that mean you look all asian now? ;D lololoollol

I never really listened to Japanese music all that much while I was there, but I guess it can't help but stick somehow.
GLAY is pretty much the most famous band ever there. I think they're supposed to be pop-rock, but considering how fast fads came and went in Tokyo, I'm amazed I heard of a band more than once, and these guys were it.
Dragon Ash was also really famous for quite a long time - I think they're supposed to be hip-hop rock or something. You might want to check both of those out, and I'm sure you can probably find them on a torrent site or a p2p program since they're way famous there.
