I know that maybe my my thread will be closed, but I really want to hear your opinion.
This is an interview of January 2004, the original one is in Spanish here (http://www.rollingstone.es/04/enero/mundors/offspring.html), but I translate it so everyone can read it, hope you understand.

(...) Q: ¿Are you proud of Bush?
Dexter: Oh you want me to speak about politics, huh? Really I don't know what to do. Irak's thing has been really unfortunate. There's people dying and it must be solved. I don't know what, but something.

Q: But you haven't answered me.
Dexter: It's something I always try to avoid but...I support George W. Bush. Noodles don't like him. He thinks he's terrible. And I know my position can be unpopular in Europe. [End]

So what do you think? I refuse to take this seriously because I don't know if Dexter was joking, what is possible. You never know with him.

Sorry for my bad English, I've done my best.

It seemed to me like Dexter was being pretty serious. He did try to avoid the question, too. The majority of the US hates Bush, and it's uncommon for a rockstar to support the Republican party. So, I honestly think Dexter was telling the truth about liking Bush if he didn't wanna answer.

i agree. i like the offspring for thier music and not thier individaul views.
the affect of personal views on the fans' opnion of the band as a whole is prob the reason dexter was tryin to scoot around it ...

I think he was serious but it doesn't matter if he supports bush or no. I like Dexter because of The Offspring and not because of his viewpoint about politics. PLus I know almost nothing about Bush so I can't judge.

I'm not saying it's bad. I mean everyone has his own opinion and no one can judge other people's opinion because no one is perfect. I'm just saying it's strange to support Bush after being in the "Rock Against Bush" or writing "Kill the President" (I know thw song was after Bush). It's kind of hypocrite.

The fact that Dexter supports him doesn't mean that the rest of the band does as well... C'mon, Dexter even says that Noodles doesn't like Bush.

It's weird cause we suppose that he is an anarchist.

yeah, the interview says that Dex supports bush, but i heard of this before and i'm sure it's a bad translation from the reporters of rollingstone.es, maybe cause the spanish version of this magazine is a little... dumb...

I doubt he is, why would he remove Kill The President from the S/T album?

I love your sig...

my ex boyfriend admired bush... but that's maybe got to do with the fact that he is kinda dumb and loves silvio berlusconi as much...

But I really doubt that dexter supports bush... but who knows? even if he told us yes or no, he might be lying...

On the Gringo Bandito site, there's a recipe for something called and "Anarchy Burger, Hold the Government!" I'm pretty sure he came up with that. I don't know if that officially proves he's an anarchist, but I just wanted to point that out.

I still think that he is an anarchist, just because he took of Kill The President from the S/T album doesn't mean that he stopped being an anarchist. Okay, he may not care as much about punk and anarchy as he used to do, but i still think he is into it.

Dexter didn't come up with that "Anarchy Burger, Hold The Government" is a song by The Vandals.

i really dont think that it is really that important, i mean since when do you like the band based on their political views rather than the fact that they have been playing pretty kickass music for the past 10 years. i mean, yea bush is fucked up in many peoples eyes but everyone has their reasons for everything, and as for taking "kill the president" off that could easily be explained that the band could get charged with teason against their country..i know that sounds stupid but that law is still in effect. ..i think, i may be wrong though..

You obviously don't know the meaning of being tru punx.

Like a band who backs the government? Fuck no.

No sane person over the age of 18 claims to be an anarchist and actually believes in it.

Besides, The Vandals are hardcore conservatives and I'm willing to bet most of you love them. I do not care what his political beliefs are, although I don't honestly know if this is even true. They only asked like two questions, that's pretty far out of context.

Are you fucking serious? Punk music is all about politics.

I really don't think it matters. I don't have to agree politically with him to listen to the music. However, the article was from a couple of years ago. For all we know, he could have changed his political views... just to point it out.

Because two fucking planes hit the twin towers.

Would you be selling records that say 'Kill The President' on them, just after thousands of people have died? No? I thought not.

That's a Vandals song.

Dexter is NOT an anarchist. Smart people never are.

Kill the President was taken off 3 months before 9/11.

i dont see the problem, just because he doesnt appear to be following everyone else on the bush hating campaign. you have to admit, loads of people just repeat whatever it is fat mike told them rather than having their own views. if the interview is correctly translated then its his choice!

OK, so I had been at work all day and may have lashed out a little. I apologize.

And to nameless, I totally agree with you about people just taking people like Fat Mike at his word and not giving it a second thought. For example, so much emphasis is placed on the Bush propaganda campain and how evil they are. I went to the Rock Against Bush tour a few years ago (because I really wante to see NOFX and Authority Zero) and was completey shocked how they were using anti-Bush propaganda that was just as misleading and one sided as the stuff that Bush was putting out, if not more.

So I guess it's OK not to agree with the politics of a band. I would just be careful about not paying attention to the song's content and not knowing what you're singing about when you sing along. And since Offspring isn't very political, that doesn't really matter here anyway.

(stepping off soap box now)

alright there buddy, really, was it absolutely necessary to spell punk or whatever you were trying to say with a x cause really it makes you look stupid.. but thats not the point, look, the whole anti-establishment and anti-this anti-that is all fine, all i am saying that it doesnt really change the music and i am fairly certain that you arent listning to the offspring for their highly political lyrics. (thats sarcasm by the way) And for all you know it isnt true so relax chill out and dont get held up on little details...

Don't make the mistake of trying to redefine the band to fit your narrow worldview. Of course I'm going to hope that the only bush he enjoys is his wife's, but I'm not going to cry if he votes Republican. He doesn't exactly write songs about how much he wants a tax cut.

As someone else already pointed out, "Anarchy Burger (Hold the Government)" is an old classic by the Vandals. You're reading a lot into things to assume that anything Dexter has ever written explicitly means he is an anarchist.
