View Full Version : Going to a QOTSA concert...

Anybody been to one? know what to expect?
This is the first time I'm seeing them live, and I can't fucking wait!
The thing is, it's a sunday, and the concert is being held ca. 85 miles from where I live, so there's no going to school on monday.
Have you ever made a similar sacrifice to go see a band that you really liked?

I saw them open for NIN back in 2005. Be prepared for that "funny smell," witty stage banter from Josh Homme, and extended versions of their songs.

I saw them in 2001 supporting The Offspring, Megadeth and AC/DC.
I didn't like them.

I've been listening to 3's & 7's obsessively lately. I'm jealous that you'll prolly hear it live!

I saw them last year. It was a really good time.

i saw them live, with eagles of death metal opening, at the OC fair last summer.
was a great show.... however, QOTSA is known for their loud as fuck performances...
but this venue, since it is so close to residential areas, was closed for years for that same reason.
they made a deal where it can be used to the OC fair...but they have to adhere to certain stipulations...
like... the shows cant go past 10:30, and it cant be above a certain deciBel level...
so it was an awesome show musically, it just felt like you werent getting the full QOTSA experience...
btw...EODM are fucking boss.

Funnily enough QOTSA announced a sideshow on top of their upcoming festival appearance out here today. I plan on going, and they'd better play Better Living Through Chemistry.

I'm really not having the best of luck with this lately. :(

Wow, now I'm even more excited for this...
I'm feeling generous, so I'd like to share this with you:
Era Vulgaris Acoustic Sessions - http://www.sendspace.com/file/gf9jug
CD includes acoustic versions of these songs:
3's & 7's
Christian Brothers (Elliot Smith Cover)
In The Fade
Into The Hollow
Make It Wit Chu
River In The Road
Sick, Sick, Sick
Suture Up Your Future
Turnin' On the Screw
White Wedding (Billy Idol Cover)
I saw them in 2001(?) on their Songs For The Deaf tour, and they were superb. It was my first show, and one hell of a way to introduce myself to live music. My mate got knocked unconscious by a Doc Martin-wearing crowd surfer. That was pretty lol.

Holy poop on a stick, that was the sickest concert experience I have ever had. Here's the setlist:
First it Giveth
No One Knows (with a nice little jam)
3's & 7's (read and weep JN)
Mexicola (absolutely amazing)
Turning on the Screw
Monsters in the Parasol
Burn the Witch
In the Fade
Leg of lamb
River in the Road
You Can't Quit Me, Baby (fucking incredible song made even more fucking incredible by the fact that they extended it with several minutes)
Do it again
Tangled Up in Plaid
Go With the Flow
You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire
Sick, Sick Sick
A Song for the Dead
They pretty much played everything I wanted them to play, except Better Living Through Chemistry, but ah well... can't complain when the setlist was that tight.
I read in a online magazine, that the concert was awarded 6 out of 6 stars, and I feel they deserve that rating.
P.S. never in my life have I been this battered. the moshpit was insane, and my shirt is still wet 24 hours after the concert.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Biffy Clyro were the warm-up band, and I was positively surprised. In my opinion they were great.

Haha, sounds like it was an awesome show man. I'm glad you had such a good time. Too bad they didn't throw "If Only" in there for good measure :D
EDIT: WAIT! THEY DID! I MISSED IT! HEFOPDV:IOHFVU FG OIFHVHOLY
holy shit you're lucky.
02-25-2008, 01:15 PM
I'm jealous of that setlist.
02-25-2008, 02:28 PM
That setlist looks great, I also like to comment that I saw Biffy as a support act a few years ago and they pretty much upstaged the band I actually saw as they're great too.
02-25-2008, 02:40 PM
I'd like to comment that I seen Biffy Clyro as an opening act a few years ago and it was the worst experiance of my entire existence. Not just musically, I mean it was literally the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

EDIT: WAIT! THEY DID! I MISSED IT!
Yeah, thing is, when they were finished playing the five first songs everybody was running low on energy, because: "OMFG FIRSTITGIVETHNOONEKNOWS3S7SIFONLYMEXICOLA!!!!!!!!! !!!"
dude i just saw them last august. they played the real version of the fun machine, it was amazing.
