If you use a GNU/Linux-based operatingsystem or FreeBSD you can get conky to check for RSS updates at a frequent, they you'll have it on your desktop. You can choose to have just topic or the full article.

I use RSS, but not the Offspring's RSS. 9 out 10 tries it tells me it's currently unavailable. And it's not like there's new news every day.
