I didn't know what to title this thread, so I'll explain because the title is somewhat misleading: what album that is considered to be a band's best work do you disagree with?
Pink Floyd- Animals > Dark Side of the Moon.
In fact, there's about 4 other Floyd albums that I'd put over Dark Side. Dark Side of the Moon is a good album, but at the same time, it doesn't have nearly the depth that most Pink Floyd albums have.
Husker Du- New Day Rising > Zen Arcade.
Sonic Youth- EVOL > Sister
The Beatles- The White Album > Sgt. Pepper
Sufjan Stevens- Michigan > Illinois
Cat Power- You Are Free > Moon Pix

I always felt that American Idiot is both underrated and overrated. Obviously it was the most popular album in the past few years, but that doesn't mean that all the hate for it is legit. Out of the context of popularity, I'm sure it would be a decent album.

I was always under the impression that Master of Puppets was considered their best anyway.
As for mine, I think Pearl Jam's "Yield" is better than "Ten" or "Vs." which everyone says is a toss up for their best two.

For me, when it comes to Metallica, it's Ride the Lightning > everything, which most people go "WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!" to.
For me, when it comes to Pearl Jam, it's vs. > everything, but I think most people choose Ten or Yield as their favorites. Yield is one of those albums that I consider so overrated that it's become underrated. People praise it so much that it gets tiresome hearing about how brilliant it is, until you listen to it and go "holy shit every single song is a goddamned masterpiece".

Alice in Chains- Jar of Flies > Dirt
Yes, but
Dirt>Tripod(self titled)
I probably deserve the hate I'm going to recieve for my ludicrous opinions:
Modest Mouse-The Lonesome Crowded West>This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about>The Moon and Antartica
Radiohead- OK Computer>Hail to the Thief
Elliot smith-Either/Or>From a Basement on a Hill
The White Stripes- Elephant>Get behind me Satan
Alkaline Trio - Good Mourning > Goddamnit
This is the first time I've read anywhere that Goddamnit was seen as their best work. Really? I'd say it was S/T > everything. Good Mourning is great, however.
I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned Nevermind yet, probably the most overrated album of our generation so far.

...k, couple things:
- The Greatest is Cat Power's best album. I don't want to live in a world where anybody thinks otherwise.
- March On Electric Children is the best Blood Brothers album. Young Machetes is the worst. Everything else falls by the wayside.
- Every Pink Floyd album is overrated except for Meddle.
- Lupe Fiasco's The Cool is so much better than Food & Liquor. Not that I give a fuck, being a cracker or whatever.
- It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back > Fear of a Black Planet by a wide margin, though I think this view is generally held.
- Marvin Gaye's Midnight Love > What's Going On for serious.
- Joy Division's Closer > Unknown Pleasures, though both are probably overrated.
- Tribe's Midnight Marauders > The Low End Theory, for no reason.
- Boy and October are U2's best albums. Joshua Tree holds 3rd place, and after that who cares.
- Every Pearl Jam album is the same. It's absurd to suggest there's a huge difference in quality between any two, this includes both discs of Lost Dogs.
- For Beatles, Let it Be > Abbey Road, I mean it.
Alright, done.

Really? I don't remember a point of time where Yield was EVER overrated. It barely went Platinum, and it's almost entirely forgotten at this point. I had to buy it used because I couldn't find a new copy somewhere. I haven't heard any Yield song on the radio in ages upon ages. With Ten or Vs. on the otherhand, there's always a new copy somewhere, and I still hear Evenflow, Jeremy, Daughter, Glorified G, and Yellow Ledbetter (OK, not from Ten, but it was an outtake) on the radio. Ten is almost Diamond certified, and Vs. set a record for copies sold within a week. I think that for the most part, Yield is a lost item.
- Every Pearl Jam album is the same. It's absurd to suggest there's a huge difference in quality between any two, this includes both discs of Lost Dogs.
Then you've obviously never listened to No Code, and then listened to the two albums it's sandwiched in between (Vitalogy and Yield).

First off, I've never heard anyone even suggest that Hail to the Thief was listenable, much less better than OK Computer. No one likes that album.
AFI - Sing The Sorrow > The Art of Drowning/Black Sails in the Sunset
I could fucking kill you right now.
- Lupe Fiasco's The Cool is so much better than Food & Liquor.
The Cool has more shitty songs on it than Food & Liquor, but the songs that are actually good are, for the most part, better than anything on Food & Liquor (except for The Emperor's Soundtrack, which is the best thing he's ever done and the best thing he ever will do). Anyway, it's a tossup, I'd suggest.

Welcome to the North > S/T
I agree fully, but I barely know anybody who knows of The Music... therefore, I don't think S/T could really be overrated. I've never known anybody who liked them, actually.
But totally. Welcome to the North is a fantastic album, and totally owns S/T.

Really?
Pfft, well we'll have to agree to disagree there m'lady. Granted, I've not listened to much Alkaline Trio since the autumn* so I may have to have a recap on the morrow.
Saying that, I can easily listen to From Here to Infirmary. Yes, it's a pop album, but it's a damn listenable pop album! Mr Chainsaw, You're Dead and Armageddon are easily some of my favourite songs by the band.
Good Mourning, however, will always be up there: The album that got me into the band, and one of the few albums that I know pretty much every word to.
I've thought of a couple more:
McLusky - The Difference Between Me And You Is I'm Not On Fire > McLusky Do Dallas
Goldfinger - Hang Ups > everything
The Mars Volta - Amputechture > Frances The Mute
Weezer - Pinkerton > The Blue Album
The Vandals - Internet Dating Superstuds/Hitler Bad, Vandals Good > Live Fast, Diarrhoea
Rx Bandits - Progress > The Resignation
Less Than Jake - Borders & Boundaries > Hello Rockview

Those aren't against the general view. Most Incubus fans splooge over Morning View (I go against the grain and think it's their worst one, though). And most people thought More Than You... was MB20's best album. When I was a fan, I liked Mad Season the best, and everyone yelled at me.
In conclusion, you just agreed with the majority with those two. :P

Ah, gotcha. You should've just said "ACLOTM > Light Grenades", then. I personally rank those two albums equally, but I guess generally ACLOTM was shat on, while people seem to love the new one.
And nobody here seems to acknowledge the existence of More Than You Think You Are :(
Really? I thought everyone went nuts over that album. I loved it when I first got it, then over time found it very bland and redundant... then ended up finding all of MB20's music bland and redundant, haha.
Their best song is a jazzy version of one of the songs of Mad Season. I think it's Crutch... It rocks. I also ADORE the hidden track on that album. Holy shit. Though I've always been unsure as to whether or not they actually performed that song... so it might not count.
Edit: HOLY SHIT. I just put on both songs I just mentioned... and had to listen to "You Won't Be Mine" in order to get to the hidden track... this song is amazing. Like, holy shit. omg. <3 this might force me to listen to the entire Mad Season album... for the first time in years.
