I am in a giving mood this evening, and have decided to share with you one of my most recent discoveries. I cannot literally share it with you, as I am on dial-up due to the fact that I am at home from college and live in the middle of the woods. But, regardless, I present to you: Vashti Bunyan.
Vashti Bunyan is often called the "Godmother of Freak-Folk", and is a direct influence on artists like Devandra Banhart, Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens, and Joanna Newsom. Basically, most of the big indie-psych-folk or whatever it's been called this month owe a debt to her music. Style-wise, she reminds me of Sufjan's more laid back tracks, and her music is very delicate and beautiful.
Reccommended album: Just Another Diamond Day.
