I'm so sure that there are thousand times more virtuoso's than you've put in the poll. I'm not diggin them much so I can't really discuss about the best guitarist without being lame. Today's dedicated guitar players are very strong, even in some unknown bands you can find a great one. I think that you also forgot Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

Thurston Moore and Lee Ronaldo from Sonic Youth are my favorites. I wouldn't call them the best in the world, but they're very innovative, have a clearly definitive style, and they've influence so much music that came after them that you can't ignore them.

Are you fucking kidding me? Fair enough if you like him, but his version of Little Wing was fucking pathetic never mind better than Hendrix, for God sake *I* play Little Wing better than Hammet... out of tune bends on the solo, really unsteady rhythm on the chord section, flat out wrong notes here and there, the whammy stuff was a nice touch, and for once he didn't use his wah pedal to death in that section, but as usual his vibrato is horrible.

Saying "that's your opinion" doesn't take the truth of it away, everything and anything I or anyone else says in this section of the board is "just their opinion"
But at least you took that well. I just found the statement kind of shocking. And in no way am I one of these Hendrix heads, there was/is/always will be better players than Jimi, but Kirk Hammett wasn't one of them..uh in my opinion as you've said.

-Joe Satriani

-Eddie Van Halen
-Ritchie Sambora
-Jeff Beck
-Richie Blackmore
-Tom Scholz
-Mick Ronson

There cannot be a "best guitarist in the world"
To be the best guitarist you would have to know every variation of every chord and note, they would have to know every song ever played and written.
But if i had to choose, here are some of my favourtie guitarists.
-Dave Mustaine
-Stevie Ray Vaughan
-Paul Gilbert
-Eric Clapton
-Kirk Hammet

no,really, bending is really easy,i mean, just check the live perfomances,Dexter`s guitar not only sounds louder for being the lead guitar,he also plays most of the solos and the hard work, exepting for "tkaa" and "dirty magic",also check the way that Dex performs a solo (for example at "what happened to you?" )and he plays it as in the record, but check the way Noodles performs them,he sounds bad....check the entire Woodstock show and you`ll know what I`m talkin about :)
