I haven't played a new gen pokemon ever, so i've been playing pokemon gold for the past while. So far I'm rocking out a Croconaw, Pidgeotto, Hypno, and Sudowoodo. I have a bellsprout in there for cut and shit but whatever bellsprout sucks. My hypno is like 10 levels above the rest because i have no useful pokemon against water types and i taught hypno thunder punch.

Ive been playing Leaf green lately. i have a venosoar, a flarion, a venomoth, a nedorino, a gyarados and a sandslash... they are all level 30 or higher :)
im struggling to beat the gym leader who has the poison type pokemon...

that's why you always have a psychic pokemon in your line up. abra or drowzee works fine
