I can't pass judgement, I've never really had a linux environment running. When I get around to downloading it, I want to play with a gentoo live disk on my ibook.

If you wanna play around with some LiveCDs, I suggest Gnoppix, SuSe and Slax (haven't tried Gentoo yet...)

Fluxbox isn't bad... it's just not customisable enough for my liking. XFCE has grown on me recently after giving Xubuntu a try, but nothing beats Gnome. I'll use KDE if I have to, but it always ends up looking like Gnome by the time I'm finished with it.

Why on Earth was this thread revived, anyway?
