why phi? not pi? :p

a few reasons... some of the math involving phi is far more beautiful than most of the stuff with pi... plus, i doubt i could pick between pi and e (as, at least in my mind, they are... somewhat equivalent... they each pull the other out of a hat at the most surprising moments).

plus i've been in a computer science mood recently and phi has the best recursion: phi = phi^2 - 1 = 1/(1 + phi) = e^(csch^-1(2))
