LA area people - music stores?

Hey, I'm in LA now and my brother is useless I asked him if he knew where some independent or small music stores were and he came up with nothing, so any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

there used to be one right down the street from me, but it got bought out by some stupidfine china store. that was where i got all of my punk CD's. :(
i have yet to find a nearby record store that sells punk albums.
