Happy birthday, dude! I hope everything is well in your end

Today was a good day. First Soundgarden: The Classic Albums Selection box set arrived in the mail (It's missing Ultramega OK, but I still got Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, Down on the Upside and Live on I-5 for a great price; the albums haven't been remastered so the sound is exactly like it was on the original releases) and then I got a piece of Days Go By album cover

Oh, and I'm seeing Kyuss Lives again, they are playing in our capital on monday


How are things going for you?

Congrats on getting a job, and also for getting accepted at the Uni. I've decided i'll change my study, i've sent an application a few months ago - for Geography. I was rather good at it in highschool, maybe i'll do better there than i did at Archaeology. Hopefully i'll get accepted (it's likely that i will get in, as i'll be an exceptional student so i'll pay for my scholarship myself, luckilly i've saved up enough money).

Anyway, The Redestructed is gonna be recording a few new demo songs this summer. And some of our new material is really daring, we've set the bar really high with one of our songs (it's gonna be a 6+ minutes long epic, fast with lots of metal influences)

So, a few weeks ago i finally got that Jar Of Flies/Sap double LP. unfortunately it was just a regular re-release version on black vinyl (the limited edition colored ones were sold out, and aren't exactly easy to get). It's still 180 gram audiophile pressing, so i'm pretty happy with it

Oh, and yesterday i bought the QOTSA self-titled CD (remastered version of course). It's a bit louder than the original (which i have in downloaded form), but i'm not complaining, because this was probably my only option if i ever wanted to own an actual copy of this album. And the bonus tracks are pretty neat . Overall a great album.

Looking through boxes with random stuff that was put into them decades (and more) ago might result in some exciting discoveries. Like The Beatles: No. 1 EP 7-inch vinyl, original first issue from 1963 (with songs from Please, Please Me album). I've checked multiple internet sources, and it really seems to be the actual 1st release of that EP. And for a vinyl that is almost 50 years old, it doesn't look bad at all. Actually i think it's in a pretty good shape.

Though i think there are some errors on that setlist - 50 million year trip is missing, and they did play that song too. Song count up by one

Also, are you familiar with Waxy? If not, check them out, another great band from the Palm Desert scene (just check out this song and be blown away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W1qrQ4vE4U). Their newest album (which i now have) was released this year, and is their second self-titled album, but there's no much info about it anywhere. Anyway, it's in a mostly red digipack, with Waxy written on the front cover, and a simple drawing of a woman holding a spider on the back cover. The album rules (reminds me very much of early QOTSA), so now i gotta check the rest of their material

The only songs i missed were Demon Cleaner and Space Cadet, and possibly Writhe (i really began to like that song). Other than that, amazing setlist, and everyone was in top form (including Nick, seems he took this reunion very seriously, so this time he was all business, no fooling around, and he did his parts perfectly). The new guitarist filled the spot nicely. Garcia and Bjork were awesome too, of course. The entire concert was excellent, and the only thing that could make it even better would be if Josh was there

Waxy completely ruled, too. I missed Burden, sadly, because now that i'm listening to them they seem like a great band (they were selling their debut album there too, despite it's not the official release date yet, but as i didn't know them i didn't buy it; i did chat with their singer a lot though, he seems like a cool guy)

So, the road trip to Budapest was a fucking success. Everything that happened was epic, even the dog shit i stepped into. Where can i start? With trying to pronounce names of hungarian cities while driving on the highway? Eating twix chocolates, only they were named "Speed"? Finding a bar, which was entirely dedicated to Jim Morrison? Eating an epic sized wiener schnitzel? Or perhaps with the 2 hour long Kyuss concert, which totaly blew us away? Yeah, that's a good point to start or finish, it was a perfect ending of a perfect day

Oh, and i got the new Waxy (are you familiar with the band, John Garcia is a guest on couple of their songs) album, which i bought from the singer (who was really excited when he learned my name), and the band signed it for me. Sweet

Holy shit. I just found out that Mike Starr, the original AiC bass player, is dead. He died on 8th march, apparently it was an overdose (methadone mixed with anxiety medication). I would probably have known this sooner, but because my new job's taking away some of my time i lost the touch with what's been going on in the music world a bit.
