Considering all the episodes of the Universe I've seen and the other specials about astronomy, it's not impossible to believe that these "ghosts" could be phantom glimpses into other dimensions. However, if that is the case (hypothetically,) there will likely never be a way to prove it. After all, we have no way of purposefully seeing or contacting other dimensions. Others who have studied the topic of the dimensions we can not experience or conceive of ourselves will know what I mean.
