Yay! Mother Nature is f#%king the East Coast...AGAIN with a Nor'easter.

Thursday where I live got this storm. Started as freezing rain turned to sleet the snow. Roads were fucking horrible no snow powls out lost electrity for 2 hours where I live the plows ignore my subdivion all the time. So yeah it's winter and ii hate driving In the snow but just suck iit up you're gonna be ok. Btw why does ALL The major news station only focuse on the east cost. We got like 9in of snow here but no dnt care what haopens on east cost SO important. Dont get me wrong I have family on the east cost and I love them but the winter weather deal with it

That's exactly what I was saying! The Midwest gets hammered with huge blizzards all winter, plus wind storms, severe thunderstorms, and tornadoes all summer, and you never hear about it. I've seen three tornadoes in my life, personally. But the Midwest's terrible weather only makes the news AFTER something terrible happens. The metrodome collapsing made the news... I think when people got trapped in their cars on the highway due to the snow falling so fast, and had to be rescued with emergency helicopters, that made the news. But otherwise, Midwesterners suck it up and live with the weather. The power goes out sometimes. You have to drive in a bunch of snow sometimes, or even shovel your way out of your house.

But the moment any storm is going to hit the east coast, the nation freaks out. The news can't stop reporting on it, and many people who live there love all the attention. The same storm travels from the Midwest to the east coast, you hear nothing about it having been in the Midwest, but on the east coast, OMG THEY'RE GETTING A NORTHEASTER!!!! Obnoxious.

I find this one upmanship kinda funny, what is dangerous and drastic weather in one place is typical in another. Sometimes it's not even dangerous, just out of the usual. It's news and apparently dangerous when it's verging on 100f in the Northeast, that's typical for four or five months straight where I live. If there were two inches of snow in my city, everything would go to shit and it'd be on the news non-stop.

Also, considering the occasional super destructive, life altering storms the coastal cities get, I kind of understand why they'd be worried about this stuff and I think they deserve the shit weather bragging rights.

Except the east coast gets blizzards. This is nothing new, special, or dangerous. This isn't the same as saying, "hahaha Florida is freaking out over an inch of snow!" The storm started in the Midwest, where it did very little (9 inches of snow in most places). It was clearly weakening as it moved east, but the media chose to blow it out of proportion, mislabeling it a "Northeaster" and exaggerating snowfall in order to draw attention and make money off it.

It has nothing to do with one-upping. I enjoy the amusement of seeing cities panic over weather that is nothing to me, yes, but this is something completely different.

Stop being such a judgemental asshole, llamas. Did you ever think that New York could be the reason for all the attention? Do you even understand how important New York is to our country? And what makes you think that all East Coasters love all the media attention? Also, have you heard of the blizzard of '96 when snow covered the tops of cars? Or the one in 2003, I think it was? I think there was even a big one in 2006. Go ahead, ignore me. I don't care, you piece of shit. I bet you don't even think Hurricane Sandy should have been on the news as much as it was.

The East coast also is on the coast, so there is a lot of flooding all over towns that are really close to the water. The town I work in has been talling residents to not shower, flush toilets, or use water at all because there is just too much fucking sewage and other stuff everywhere. Yea the midwest gets a lot of snow, but they don't have constant floods and ocean water flooding the streets freezing, then getting more water when the tide comes back in. The next town over from me had pretty much all of its power out. Oh and yea, Mass got between like 2 and 3 feet of snow. Alot more than 9 inches.

Yep, I've heard of that blizzard, which is exactly my point. The east coast is used to snowy winters and blizzards, so it's ridiculous that the media blew this so out of proportion. My friends on the east coast hardly said a word about it - posted a couple pictures of the snow, and that's about it, because they knew this was nothing dramatic.
Hurricanes are a completely different story, and it's funny how you once again exaggerate what I say.

Also, it's really cool how you go out of your way to insult people by calling them assholes and idiots... shows a lot of your character.

Melyssa, calm down. No one is attacking you. Outside of the northeast, the media has been trying to make the storm out to be another hurricane Sandy. Media coverage of this snowstorm = way overblown.

Thank you! I understand some imperial measurements alright (inches, feet, yards), but I'm hopeless at understanding Fahrenheit.

It was a typical day for Alberta weather today. It was cloudy this morning, then we seemed to get either really warm/wet snow or maybe rain, then we got some light flurries of snow, then it started getting sunny, then about an hour ago it was quite windy with some snow, and now it's really sunny and the clouds have retreated. If you don't like the weather here, just wait a few minutes!
