Making a discussion community

Me and some friends are idealizing a brazilian online comunity of discussion. Our group is composed by a soon-to-become-a-psychologist (me), a publicitary, a soon-to-become-a-journalist, a medic and a perverse dude.

But that doesn't matter. The problem is the kind of online platform that we're going to use. You see, the ideal would be a ".com.br" dominy site, but since we don't like to pay for stuff, we are studying other options. And the other problem with a paid dominy is that we'd be responsible for the place's content in the extent that, soon enough, we'd be having to defend ourselves from law suits, due to the contents of the discussions.

Anybody has suggestions or ideas?

no_way, i'm actually asking for options of platforms like blogs, bulletin boards, etc. I'd like to know what would be the best system to accomodate the comunity, but i'll bring up her work when i talk to the guys in case we need somebody talented with design. We would be more than happy to advertise her work in the site in exchange for the use of one of them. They're indeed very pretty. In my opinion, if you want to make a discussion community the best thing would be a bulletin board. There might be a lot of free ways of doing it but I can't recomend any good one, sorry

It seems like a message board is the best option, with the attachments for multimedia and all, but i'm still wondering if there isn't anything that can make a reliable and simple mix of website + message board. Something new.
