errr no they arent really friends with bad religion. don't you remember the whole epitaph/brett gurewitz thing? they used to play together but the bands don't really like each other that much.
as for the AFI thing, i think there's some tension between dexter and davey. probably something to do with AFI leaving nitro and davey's new, girly, gay look.
