Ha! Well, to each his/her own, I suppose~ I actually like a lot of U2. Kind of an early form of ambient new-wave, I guess. I also like the Edge's brilliant use of delay pedals to create a pseudo-orchestrated feel. That's what I meant by "there's some U2 in there," BTW --- I didn't actually use a delay pedal, but I was shooting for a kind of echo-ring style of chord-riffing.

It's kind of half-funny (because there's no way I can sing as good as the people in the song, so I "improvised," say, NOFX style?), and half-serious, because this is a really bad-ass song. Here's the youtube video of the original for comparison's sake; it would be awesome if you could let me know what you think of my version, both as a comparison to the original and as a stand-alone. Okay, this is a completely insane, dischordant, structureless party song with a repeating chorus for sing-along purposes; when we start playing live, we're gonna play this one a lot (at least I hope so~). Judging it from that perspective, I'd really like to hear what you guys think

I checked all the links, I have to say that the original Persona tracks didn't impress me, most likely because I didn't play that game and it doesn't mean anything to me, your cover was ways much better to my ear .
Long Way Down reminded me of some song, I can't recall it, but the chorus has it. I like.
Oh and My Love is good too. I can hear "Feelings" vibe in the first verse riff. And what a solo! Definitely something different from your previous solos.

(1) Persona 3 has a soundtrack that kind of has to grow on you over time; I totally understand what you mean here, because I actually hated the soundtrack when I first started playing....but I don't know what happened, right around the halfway point, I just kinda fell in love with it 0_0 It's mostly J-pop and rap and techno, genres I used to hate....but I say, this game has totally opened my mind to these genres because it's given me several situations in which I can tap into the emotional impact of music as a whole, in defiance of genre....if that makes sense 0_0 I think I've actually figured out how to listen to music without giving a shit what genre it is. An amazing feat for me, considering how sensitive I was to such things just a few weeks ago~

Of course, that could all just be that Persona 3 is a bad-ass game and I like anything associated with it But I like to think it's at least a little of both.

(2) I'm glad you like Long Way Down I wrote it after work the other day (to keep me away from playing my Persona 3 FES follow-up~). I really like the rhythm of the words in the Persona 3 songs, and I wanted to see if I could do some weird rhythms (like in the P3FES song, where he says, "Every man's gotta fight the fear/I'm the first to admit it, sheer thoughts provoke the new era/become a big terror/but my only rival is my shadow, rewind, then play back and fix my own error;" I really like the way the rhythm kinda spirals off out of time, goes crazy for half a measure, then wraps neatly around to fix in time with the next bar....it's like the MC is mocking the rhythm, almost! Like, "hah! I can speed way up and then do some tricks and come back down, all in time for the next measure!"). So I'm totally going to be incorporating this method into a lot of my work from now on; I really, really like how this whole rap thing is with regard to rhythm --- I never thought I'd hear a genre that made me listen to the drums as the lead instrument!

(3) As for My Love, you can thank Allen for that one~ I wrote the actual notes for the solo, but he wrote the placement (i.e. "solo here, riff there, etc."). I helped with some of the melody, too, but by and large that was an Allen song. Steve's in there somewhere, too (I think during the part where they're saying, "This is love, don't think it's hate;" I think you can hear him screaming there somewhere). And the intro riff was definitely feelings-inspired; I was worried it might have been too close (it was actually identical at first), so we changed it up some. I couldn't change the whole thing because it fit the progression too well 0_0

It was also Allen's idea to play the solo that way, though; I tried doing my traditional thing and he said, "No, don't moustache it up!" (that's an inside joke, sort of; that song "Red State of Denial" on Noise Machine's site has a solo that I tried to play in a mock-70's southern-rock style, and Steve and Allen started calling it "Moustache Rock" because it sounded like something some southern guy with a big moustache would play). So you can probably thank Allen for most of that song~ No bends and all, that was his idea.

Once again, I like it. But there is something that annoys me a bit. It sounds like there's a cut in some parts of the song. Did you change the speed during the song? Anyway, the song itself is great.

Nah, actually I was playing with stop-and-starts, fucking with the tempo. Rhythmic experimentation. Like I said, parts of it are messy (I also haven't had time to fuck with cool edit in awhile, so I've got to reacquaint myself with it....gha).
