Ugh, ugh, ugh. I listened to Brain Stew today and totally basked in the times when Green Day was actually good and fun. They developed a serious case of Tom Delonge Ego after American Idiot took off. And just like Delonge, the only thing they're *really* good at at all is fun and creative pop-punk. A.I. tried to be a rock opera (it was a concept album, but definitely not a rock opera), with multi-movement song (they weren't - they were just a bunch of really short songs crammed into one). Then they tried to expand on their non-rock opera, and this time tried to give the album "acts", which also failed and weren't really acts. Now they're off to release a 3-album set?? I get this honest feeling that they looked around the music industry, saw how badly double-disc albums flop, and said, "Yeah, but we're FUCKIN GREEN DAY. Two discs might not have been successful for hack like RHCP, but we made a rock opera and multi-movement tracks and multi-act albums. Hell, we can sell a THREE-disc album!!"
