Once again, I am writing an essay, and there is always that one bastard of a sentence.
So, I don't really want to say 'indebted to' or 'owes thanks to', because that sounds really positive, and just doesn't seem to fit in right. Also, the last part seems to be a bit awkward too, or does it? I don't know!
The status and treatment of women in the Early Modern Period is indebted to a number of different societies; those of the Ancient Greeks and Romans, which those during the Renaissance were trying to replicate and reproduce; and of the Christian society of the Middle Ages, out of which they were emerging.
