Live Songs vs Album Versions (yes, I'm serious)

I sort of thought this was a stupid topic at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted know other people's thoughts on the subject.
Some Offspring songs sound better live than they do on the album, and some of them actually sound better on the album, and others fit into both categories. I do prefer them live, overall, though.
What do you think? I'm not asking for favorite/best or least favorite/worst, just which songs you think sound better live compared to their album versions, and vice versa.

Here are just some examples of my opinion on the matter.

Better live
Gotta Get Away - Noodles always throws in awesome riffs and the energy is great.
Have You Ever - the build-up to and the bass solo itself. Did you really expect me to give a different reason?
Staring at the Sun - the backing vocals. Again, would I have another reason?
Hammerhead - Greg K's and Noodles' backing vocals give a great harmony to the song and the guitars sound great live.
Bad Habit - everyone knows this particular song is better live!
Hit That - on the album, the bass has too much distortion and it sounds more like a rock song live. The only trouble with it live is the vocals are so high-pitched and loud that Dexter has trouble hitting the notes live.

Better on the album
Pretty Fly (for a white guy) - I like it live, but it sounds kind of bad tuned down. It's very noticeable.
All I Want - same reason as Pretty Fly.
Come Out and Play - sometimes it's better live, but the guitars usually sound so different than the album and a lot of times Greg's microphone volume is too low.
Want You Bad - the guitars typically sound a bit messy and unclear compared to the album version.
Cruising California - it's not one of my favorites, but only the chorus sounds good live.

Both/either or
Why Don't You Get A Job? - I like it live because Noodles is always funny on back-up and it never quite sounds the same twice. However, I like all the instruments used in the album version.
Gone Away - I like it live because the crowd always gets into it and the instruments always sound good, but the album version is so full of emotion and the effects on the vocals in the chorus make quite an impact.
Self Esteem - I like it live because Dexter gets the crowd to sing along, Noodles jumps around like the rock star he is, and who doesn't enjoy Greg K's bass dance? But, again, it's a very hard song to sing in the right key, especially the chorus.

I don't think it was stupid topic,it's actually kinda interesting! well for me some songs work out better live than others
for example,for me
Better live:
Session,Bad habit,gotta get away,come out and play,self esteem,all I want,gone away,half truism,stuff is messed up,the future is now,.. SELF ESTEEM and BAD HABIT are way more fun and energetic live ....
in the other side: songs like pay the man(kinda boring live for being so long),hammerhead(dexter's voice sound horrible sometimes in this) and can't get my head around you(same hammerhead) sound better in studio version ...

Hmm, that's interesting. I agree that it's difficult for Dexter to hit the right notes in Hammerhead live, but I can't get over how cool the guitars sound from the bass solo to the end. What won me over most, though, about Hammerhead live is the backing vocals in this one. They are honestly some of the smoothest backing vocals I've heard from them. The harmony from Greg K's higher vocals and Noodles' lower vocals is amazing.

I'm so agree with you! I think that was one the better hammerhead live version (dexter's voice good,backing vocals really good,guitars great,bass great,and what can I say about drums,excelent) ..but too bad greg k doesn't do backing vocals in that song anymore ..I think the only problem with hammerhead is dexter's voice that sometimes sounds terrible(u know what I mean,for example when they played on KROQ may 2012)!

Awww, man! Greg K doesn't do back-up in Hammerhead anymore?! NO! He made it so much better. Greg may not talk much, but he's got a great singing voice. He's always perfectly on-key in Staring at the Sun and Americana. Hammerhead didn't sound as good at the Almost Acoustic Christmas (I think it was) because he didn't sing in it.
Also, I know that at KROQ 2012 and Woodstock 1999, Dexter was sick. I salute him for trying so hard despite this fact. He still sounds really good when he's healthy, but as you said, he can't hit some of the higher pitches in some of the songs.

I thought it was generally accepted that Kristy, are you doing okay? was exceptionally better live. Or has the bandwagon council reached a new consensus?

We Are One sounds much better live.

Today in the club, they played Pretty Fly. To me it was awesome seeing the people jump up and down. And my buddy who I didn't see in years, was talking to me about seeing The Offspring at Lowlands festival and having a lot more fun than he would think he'd have. That was awesome.

Not sure if this is entirely related. Album version vs Club?
