I definately think slim pickens would have been a far better single choice and cruising california should have been omitted from the album entirely (even though it's a joke song I still feel it was a waste of space and they could have put a better song in it's place, like Pass Me By)

A lot of you don't seem to understand the point of a radio single. *Arrogance quota for today filled*
Slim Pickens? Fuckin' really?
I'd say they could have chosen better singles:
1st single - Days Go By (I'm fine with this one, I guess they wanted something more appealing to the masses)
2nd single - Secrets From the Underground (this one would be more appealing to the long time fans and those who had given up on the band a while ago and then completely shunned them because of Cruising California, it's also catchy enough for the radio play)
3rd single - Dirty Magic (the band members already said they wanted this song to gain more exposure, so making it a single would be a logical move)
And I guess Cruising California could eventually get released as a single. The label was probably hoping for a summer hit, but it kinda backfired, as a lot of people were judging the album by this song. It shouldn't have been released before everyone had already heard the album.
I'm not an expert, and I'm no one to judge - but yeah, Slim Pickens as third single instead of Turning Into You. It's the catchiest song on the album, perfect radio-length, great pumping chord combinations, awesome vocal melody - it's a melody that really sticks to your head, immediately. That's what a good single's all about. Of course a little problem is the f-words, but they and many others have done it before on radio, so.
I'm telling ya, Slim Pickens is so catchy it's almost scary - we were a gang on a vacation to Magaluf, I showed 'em the song, and it became the most played song by us on the whole vacation. By guys who, like, prefer pop and techno. Of course they also like music like The Offspring, but you see my point. Other friends of mine also loves it, and have said that THIS is The Offspring as we know 'em. I could see it do really well. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid was the only song that went popular in Norway back in 2008, and now it's nothing from Days Go By unfortunately. I think it's a great follow-up - "dance fucker dance!" -> "dance fucker dance let the motherfucker burn!"![]()

Current music trends aren't really that receptive of pop-punk or even alt-rock for that matter. The stuff that gets on the radio these days is very folkish. Still, for a band that had its breakthrough record released in 1994, the Offspring have done a remarkable job of staying relatively popular. Days Go By charted at #12 on the US charts, and the first single did very well - they have hardly become an obscure band
I would agree that the label has done a poor job of marketing this record: Cruising California wasn't going to go well with anybody, and Turning Into You has gotten a bizarrely little amount of support.
Dividing By Zero and Slim Pickens are two of the best songs the band has ever written; but they would have been just awful as singles - punk rock isnt whats getting played on the airwaves these days. Secrets For the Underground or even Dirty Magic would be better choices (still somewhat hoping one of them will be released).
