View Full Version : How the hell do I get rid of this adware?
So yeah, yesteray I was stupid and downloaded Worms Armageddon along with a cd-crack since I misplaced my cds. The game itself was alright, but the cd-crack was bullshit and installed all sorts of spy-ware on my computer. Since then I've downloaded and used Ad-Aware, AdWare SpyWare SE, and SpyBot and I still keep getting pop-ups (even when I don't have IE or firefox open). I've ran some of them numerous times and every time I run them, they find something they didn't find the first time. Why is that?

I have Webroot Spy Sweeper and I never have any problems anymore with spyware. I don't know if they have a free version tho.
I just pulled it off download.com. I'll give it a whirl!

I keep getting ebates money maker and a trojan downloader in my computer. I even know where they are in my computer, I have two spyware/malware removers and a virus scanner, but they keep coming back. I wish someone would just shut down their sites. I'm on safe mode right now trying to get rid of them, but when I go on normal mode, I get one pop up every second. Who was the moron who invented pop-up ads anyways?

Describe those pop-ups, Josh. Doesn't sound like spyware material to me.

Those are the two most common, though I've also had an AOL ad come up once as well as a few other random things.
Every time I run Spy Sweeper it finds more stuff than the time before. It keeps mentioning two files that come up when windows loads, checkrun and hfspbc. I've pulled both of them out of my startup registry, but they keep coming back.

Ok that's spyware then. First what you wanna do is let both spybot and ad-ware run at the windows start-up. Either that or windows safe mode. Other than that you should google up each specific issue and follow the instructions for manual removal. I'm really not an expert but that's what I do when I help people get rid of their spam.

I get the exact same pop-ups, Do you have e-bates as your malware?
Hornypope beat me to it, so i'll just add to his. :)
lavasoft.com had Ad-aware, download it and do a full system scan, that will find some stuff better than Spy Sweeper. After that, when the scan is done, write down the names of the malware/virus etc., excluding the cookies and look up how to uninstall them on Google. I recommend "Geeks to go" forum, but DO NOT go to the website of the malware.

Ad-aware puts spyware on your computer also. I used to have it.
If you have cable, Spy Sweeper checks your computer all the time, and
regularly updates definitions of spyware. You have to go into options and set-up what you want it to do for you. *shrugs* With Spy Sweeper and AVG anti-virus, I never have any problems.

That's weird, Spy Sweeper never finds anything in my computer, but at the same time, Ad-Aware finds about 16 objects.

What system do you have?
I have XP. I love XP! :D
I just went into safe mode, ran all the scanners in there and cleared everything out. I also have a program called "bazooka" that finds the things and tells you how to manually remove them. It found something none of the others did and I got rid of it on my own. At the moment, I have not yet gotten a pop-up, but I've only been in regular mode for a couple minutes so far.

They themselves are adware. Use Spybot search and Destroy and Download the pro version of LimeWire. Shhh.... though. I have it and it removed around 160 pieces of spyware and adware.

billiejoe--nieh is well aware that those popups were adware, that's why he posted them when asked for an example of the adware popups he was getting. try to at least vaguely understand what is being said before posting.

So are there any more problems after the safe-mode scan?
So are there any more problems after the safe-mode scan?
Nope. I haven't gotten any pop-ups since going back into regular mode. I ran the programs again and they still found a couple things here and there, but they weren't affecting my system at all so I honestly don't care.

Press Ctrl+ALT+Delete to open the task manager. Look for any programs(exe) that are open in the Processes tab that look like spyware. Write them down on a paper, click end process on the spyware exe's, and seach for them on your computer. When you find them, just delete them.
Also go to C:\Documents and Settings\*write your acount name here*\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files on your computer. Go through every one of those folders and arrange the files as type to make the job easier. Look for any exe and cab files, and delete them.
This might help a bit.

No, because there is still the element of registry. And besides, a lot of programs still operate from memory even when you end the process through task manager.

It still helps a bit helps a bit. He could also just search for the name of the file in on google and find instructions on how to remove it manually. The ctrl+Alt+delete thing is just mostly helpfull to identify some of the adware programs that are running.
