View Full Version : Kindness to animals, even those most people hate

Today I did what could very well be the nicest and most compassionate thing I've ever done in my life… so far.

As I was walking to my parents' place I saw a crow lying by the base of a tree. Two women were giving it water and told me that it had been hit by a car earlier that morning. Someone carried the crow (who I later named Draven) over to the tree where it had been resting for quite some time. The women were giving it water to keep it hydrated. I took a closer look and saw that Draven had a broken wing and possibly even a broken leg. I asked for a phone book so I could call the Humane Society and have it taken to a wildlife hospital.

I wrapped Draven in my tunic and called my brother, asking him to bring a box to put Draven in for the trip to the shelter. As a positive sign, Draven put up a bit of a fight, understandable for a frightened crow but a very good sign. When we arrived the clerks were quite surprised when they opened the box. I guess they're so used to getting baby birds and squirrels.

I literally gave the shirt off my back to make sure Draven got medical attention. It was worth it, though. I'm also gonna call tomorrow to get an update on Draven's condition. I have a good feeling s/he will make a full recovery.

Nice story. Sometimes it feels good to do something you don't get to do every day for a good cause even though it's not contributing to society anyway. And why the hell should it, even?

As a kiddy kid I used to want to save all the birds that fell off the nest by feeding them but most of the time they just died. I was never evil to any animals except for insects. I tortured the living fuck out of those in many ways.

I've rescued many stray animals. Most of them just got out of their yard, and were returned to their owners, via signs, calling the humane society with their tag numbers or sighting them in my backyard. I have a cat no one ever claimed, Psycho. and I used to have a dog that no one claimed either named Oreo, she ran away. My guess is, that's how she got out when we found her.

Only selfish humans have no affection in them at all. At least cats show their appreciation when you give them a treat.

As for saving birds, I always used to save anything I could. One cat was getting abused where it was, so I asked the people that were doing it if I might have him, fed him back up and then placed him with a good home.
I have saved many a bird around here, and I even saved a rabbit once. It was only a baby, and I was worried about it, so I took it home and then my parents told me to get rid of it.

Well I do imagine eating them dead is a hell of a lot more practical then having them moving or making sounds of agony as you are eating them.
And if you bashed it's head in, why did you bother slitting the throat?
