Today when reading an artice on the proposed "Freedom Tower" in the place of the world trade centres, it got me thinking about how much i hate those Americans who put their "God Bless America" ethichs before common sense.
I think for some Americans, patriotism is an excuse to put themselves abouve other minorities and also serves as a base for their gun culture/superpower superiority/shit foreign policy/arrogance to nme but a few things. What "patriots" need to realise is that true patriotism lies in what is just and right, NOT in following ones country witout questin, a key example being Iraq. Its rediculous name being evidence enough, "Operation Iraqi Freedom".
Another thing that really gets me is the view that in order to be a patriot, you also have to be conservtive and uphold the constitution etc. but surely a true patriot would do what is best for his country, and should this mean reassesing the constitution and changing it for the better, ie "every man has the right to bear arms."
Finally, one key point of patriotism is the nfluence of religion, "One nation, under God". Surely in a country as multi-culturaly as the USA, the land of opportunity, this cross between of politics and religion has no place yet so often God is tied to patriotism, the key example being the President Himself.
Well, there goes my view on th matter and i just wanted to see what everyone else thought, it will be interesting to see the reactions of various nationalities of people.
