i never knew that The Offspring covered a Jimi Hendrix song until i heard the Offspring version of "Hey Joe". it's pretty crazy.

i just heard the offspring cover about half an hour ago and i knew it sounded familiar buti couldn't quite figure out where i had heard the song. then while listening to my Jimi Hendrix greatest hits CD the song came on and i was like "holy crap! offspring covered Hendrix!".

I got two different versions of the cover.. Those are nice covers.

who did the other cover?

I mean I have two different versions of the Offspring covering that song. So both are by the Offspring, only they sound a bit different.

Yeah, they did a recording of it back in 1991, for the Baghdad EP and then a different version for the Gone Away single inn 1997. I think I got those releases and dates right, it's been a while since I've checked them.

More words are omitted in the 97 version.

Ah ok, I was kinda surprise when I played my Gone Away single back when I bought it. Logical, thanks.

The lyrics are hilarious in the Baghdad EP sleeve. I guess they couldn't get permission to reprint the lyrics, so they took out words from the original and replaced them like "Hey Joe" madlibs. It's awesome. I or someone else should scan it sometime.
