Er... he's right. The Offspring aren't THAT great. Bands like The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica are more talented.

That doesn't mean I don't like The Offspring, but I have grown to realise they don't REALLY totally rock.

All this topic comes down to is everyone's opinon (except HAU, who at this point is just listing random bands/people). Some of the bands that were listed I disagree with, some I agree with.

I gotta say, most over-rated band ever would have to go(in my opinon) to Nirvana, If Kurt Cobain was still kickin' out the jams then they would'v just been another band. Sure they're ok, but they're now legendary and, who else cant say that they'd turn over the radio if Smells Like Teen....blahdy Blah, came on?

The again, some just like them and probably still might do in their 20s (some do actually e.g. Tjis).

Its true tho, But had they carried on down the 'Smash' path it would'v been so different, altho Ixnay is class and Americana did little wrong. But now they write music to sing along to, thats simple to hear and even easy to get your parents to buy. no bad thing you may think, but when i compare them to say Mars Volta or even Bad Religion(2 extremes i know), i'd prefer it if they re-gained more of there edge.

Radiohead (I love them, but come on. People worship the ground these folks walk on. Their last album was really fucking weak and people were still raving about how great it was)
Tool (they used to be my favorite band, then all my cd's got stolen a couple years ago. I finally recently downloaded their last two cds and listened to them and they're really not that good. Everything they've ever done has been done better somewhere else like Primus or Pink Floyd or whoever the hell else isn't coming to mind right now)

That is so true. There is a playable live song of there's on purevolume.com, its just horrible. There music is so overproduced to make up for the lack of talent. But listen to a live song, then the inablity to actually play shows through.

That is so true. There is a playable live song of there's on purevolume.com, its just horrible. There music is so overproduced to make up for the lack of talent. But listen to a live song, then the inablity to actually play shows through.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I'm not a MCR fan, but I saw them live at Warped (against my will) and found that they actually sound somewhat enjoyable in a live setting whereas I don't like their studio stuff at all.

Well the live song I heard sounded like shit. Ofcourse being there live is going to make the whole experience seem pretty good. I can't stand their studio stuff, It reminds me of good charlotte, with that level of over production to attempt to make shit sound decent.

Wow, the same thing happened to me! My friend wanted to hear that radio hit that they (of course) played last. He also made me sit (EDIT: stand?) through Fallout Boy so he could hear their radio hit. It's a good thing he let me pick basically all the other bands we saw, or I would have gouged my eyes out.

You just haven't given them a fair enough chance yet. There's just no way they're overrated. If anything, I'd say they're underrated. They have an extremely small yet loyal fan base and I'm almost positive there's more people who hate them than people who like them. Dream theater's amount of fans is just too small for the band to be considered overrated. Actually, I think there's more Japanese fans than American/European. Weird...

-Greenday were so much better a few years ago. Now their songs just sound the same.
-Coldplay are good, don't get me wrong, the lead singers voice is unbareably out of tune with his fantastic piano playing.
-Girls Aloud have to be the Royal Fagettes of pop music. Little girls see them and decide to mimick their slutty style. Dispicable.*shakes head at all three*

Dreamtheater are overrated by their fans. I cannot stand that band. I've tried, and I know too many guitar players who worship Petrucci, but for me, playing odd scales in fucked up time signatures quickly doesn't cut it.

Almost any song on the radio, the tragically hip, sum41, pink floyd led zeppelin, simple plan, greenday, like every band that sings about nothing, almost all drug induced bands, mcr, the used, and maybe its just heare in canada but half the people don't even know who the offspring are so how are they overrated? same with sublime i only know one person other then me that knows who they are.

Overrated by their fans? That's a stupid statement. You could say the same thing about almost any person's favorite band. Of course a person's favorite band is going to be though of more highly than what they actually deserve.

Theres more to it than what you make it out to be. It just takes a certain type of listening that most people just aren't used to. I do admit that they did over do it in Train of Though(it still sounded good though) but most of the solos in the other cds are quite good.

Overrated doesn't mean a good band gets good reviews, it means a horrible band gets better reviews than good ones (MCR, Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, etc. They all suck).
