Unreleased song is being released!! It's not from the new album. This song was recorded during the recording of Sing The Sorrow. It's called "Rabbits Are Roadkill On Route 37" I like it. Something to tide us over til the new album, and the first single comes out. http://www.afiseries.com/download/mp3s/RabbitsAreRoadkillOnRoute37.mp3

Sounds alright, I guess. Not an awesome song, though. They've got better ones. ANd the mixing on that version is not good - AFI's a band that relies heavily on that to create the atmosphere that goes with their songs.

Yeouch. Rabbits are Roadkill on Route 37 really didn't do anything for me the first listen through. I hope that's not the direction they decide to go in. Also, I find it really hard to believe that that song was recorded with Sing the Sorrow. First of all, it sounds nothing like it. The melody sounded terrible; basically indistinguishable from any of the most recent "emo bands of the day" that have been popping up. The other reason I find it hard to believe is that Sing the Sorrow was such a perfect and complete album that it's hard to imagine anything getting thrown out. It seems like the kind of album that is more like one complete idea, so no songs would just be rejected like that. Also it's just kind of incomprehensible that such a shitty song almost ended up on one of my all-time favorite albums. I'll try to listen to it again and see if it grows on me, but it's one of those songs where I just don't get the feeling like it will.

I also hated their cover of "Head Like a Hole," which if I'm not mistaken was their last release. I really hope they don't continue to spiral downward. Not that I'd expect them to ever top Sing the Sorrow, but still, this is disappointing.

That all said, the music on their site is actually pretty cool, even if WAY more electronically-centered than even STS was.

Xylophone, maybe that could be the reason it was cut from STS. Every band has its weaker songs.

I generally agree.

Yep. I'm sure it's the reason why it was cut from STS. I do agree it's a pretty weak song, but I still like it. It's not the worst thing they've done, but it's definitely not the best. I'm a huge AFI fan, and pretty much like whatever they put out. I can't really get into Answer That and Stay Fashionable, much. I like about half the album, but's that's pretty much the only album that I don't like every song from. Sorry, I should have warned you that the quality wasn't that great.

That little sample from the new site sounds amazing though. If the new album is anything like that, I'm sure it'll be their best record yet.

Rabbits Are Roadkill has been talked about ever since Sing The Sorrow was released. One of the pictures in the booklet has a drawing of a rabbit scribbled out and underneath it "rabbits are roadkill" is written. Also, in the book of the DVD, there's notes about the songs. It has a list of all the STS songs, plus 3 others not heard on the album. "Rabbits Are Roadkill" "Carcinogen Crush" and "100 words". The 100 words is speculated to be that poem that's read after "....but home is nowhere", but I don't think it's official. Rabbits Are Roadkill and Carcinogen Crush were then songs recorded for Sing The Sorrow, but didn't make the cut. Also, while recording the album, they said they recorded about 18 songs. Obviously not all of them made the cut seeing that there's only 12 (13 if you included This Time Imperfect). "Rabbits Are Roadkill On Route 37" is one of those rejected Sing The Sorrow songs.

The file was in bad quality. I think when they actually release it, it should sound alot better. I heard it's going to be released on November 18th or something. I should reiterate a point though, it is NOT the new single. It's not from the new album. This is a song they recorded during the Sing The Sorrow sessions. The new album is expected to be released as early as February 2006. So we probably won't hear any song or single from the new album until possibly December.

I went through a huge AFI stage at one point. I stopped listening to them though. I just went to their website and streamed a couple of their old songs and now I'm kind of wishing that I'd brought their album with me.
