Good idea, and let's make it political sounding, with the songs connected in the story of a modern day religous figure!

yeah these would be good issues for a ballad. i read somewhere that they wrote a ballad called pass me by. do you know something about that? for the first answer: if you don't like this, don't answer! u loose your time. . . . .

Pass Me By is either a song they renamed on Splinter, or they scraped it entirely. And if you didn't notice, that was a not so subtle hint that Green Day did a ballard, and if The Offspring did it, it would be perceived as them riding on the coat tails of Green Day's success.

The Offspring already made Gone Away and Denial, Revisited.. That's enough
Too many bands doing ballads recently, Greenday being one of them.
They should try something that hasn't been done for a while like a multi part track (eg track 3: song part 1, track 9: song part 2).

If you have noticed this is an Offspring discussion. You can talk about that crappy band in the offtopic section.

He was using Green Day as an example. Stop being such a little fucktard and actually read what he said. As for another band that has done multi-tracks, AFI.

Kinda like a Denial, Revisted ballad? If you want to call it a ballad...maybe one would be cool, and then, bring on the super fast! WE WANT MORE BAD HABITS!!!

Offspring aren't particularly good at making ballads. If they can make one as good as Aerosmith's Dream On or KISS's Forever, that would be great, but if they can't, no new ballads, please.
Edit: oh wait a minute. If Gone away is considered a ballad, that's one of their best songs. But if they make a new ballad, it better be as good as Gone Away and not as bad as Feelings or When You're In Prison.

offspring doesn't make bad ballads. I thought denial, revisited was a good song. Although, on their new cd, they should probably avoid it cuz of the popularity of all these ballads on mtv and stuff

Niether song is a ballad. The only songs that are ballads are Gone Away and Denial, Revisited. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having a song like that on the new album.

They should put a hidden track on their new album because its allways good when you think a CD has finnished and then suddenly another song come on

I really wouldn't call Gone Away a ballad either, the closest thing to one they have is Denial, Revisited.

Race Against Myself was a ballad and it was kinda catchy. However in this fans opinion the new album should be full of Self-Esteem and Kids Arent Alright-type of songs and throw in a neo-con type start and we have an album

i think the kids aren't alright is the closest thing to a ballad but keeping with the convo about the new album i think that whatever they do will be sweet because there music seems to get refined every time and has more and more songs i cant stop listening to.i hope they dont do something too close to what greenday did i bought the cd and it's about nothing but war. it's nice to have a bit of variation.

In my opinion, they doesn't have real ballads. If you consider Denial Revisited or Gone Away as ballads, so it'll be cool if they include that type of ballads, but please not "wake me ups", ok?

the offspring doesn't have ballads. no way. denial is the closest they ever come.
the best offspring songs are always in minor keys. let's get some more of those :)

i am doing a ballad essay for school and for those who dont know
1 it tells a story
2meant to be sung
3there is a love intrest
4there is nobility
5there is an act of violence
and the only song ive seen that has all o these is the kids aren't alright there is a few songs that are close but they lack maybe one of these characteristics.
just wanted to clear that up. :)

tkaa doesn't have a love interest.
Green Day have recently done multi part tracks. As for another band that has done multi-tracks, AFI.
Neither are really what I meant (well maybe AFIs, but theirs was backwards).
But you're right, anything like that has been done to death, they shouldn't try anything like ballads or multipart tracks or anything 'epic'. Just an album of at least 40 minutes with a solid tracklisting (no joke songs) and everyone will be happy (well almost everyone, there'll always be a few complaints no matter how good it is).

The offspring have written a few ballads. Wouldn't Dirty Magic be considered a ballad? And I am pretty sure that they are putting the new version on the new album.
The real reason I quoted this, though, is because I whole-heartedly support writing more songs in minor keys. Those always become my favorite and that style is like Noodles' signature style guitar riff. Splinter and Co1 didn't really have any songs (that I can think of) that were in minor key, and I think we really need several of them on the new album.

the song's probably too fast for it to be a ballad... maybe a farfetched ballad, but i never thought of it like that. to me, the only offspring ballads are gone away and denial, revisited.

Actually yeah, I'd like to hear a rock ballad on a new album. They showed us they're able to do that, as Denial and Dirty Magic prove it, but a rock ballad isn't a thing that fits very well with their usual power chords style.
Oh and by the way bd007h is just a sucker with no self esteem. Just check his last posts on G.O.D. and you'll know what I mean.

The Offspring really arn't great at doing ballads, but if they did one good, I'd love to have it on an album.
The problem with ballads is if they arn't done perfectly, they suck. "Denial, Revisited" just sounded forced and cheesy. But "Dirty Magic", on the other hand, worked really well.
