“(Can’t Get My) Head Around You”
Lyrics
Head Around You is an interesting song because it switches between two “moods” a few times – almost whispering and screaming. The song seems to be about one person (1st person perspective) who is trying to help another person, but the other person does not allow the first person to help him (“Deep inside your soul, there’s a hole you don’t wanna see”). Finally, at the end, a “breakdown” occurs, with all the accompanying screaming and yelling (“You know I’ve really tried, I can’t do any more about you”).
Music
Head Around You starts off with clean guitar and the lyrics almost being whispered, then quickly jumps to metal distortion guitar and the lyrics being shouted, then changes back. Before the last bridge, there are two measures of grating feedback, symbolizing extreme anger and frustration, and then a powerful yelling sequence (Yaah! The cut’s getting deeper. Yaah! The hill’s getting steeper).
Artist Info
(Can’t Get My) Head Around You is on the album Splinter (2003, Columbia Records) by the OC-punk band The Offspring (formerly Maniac Subsidal). The band consists of singer/guitarist Brian “Dexter” Holland, guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman, bassist Gregory “Greg K.” Kriesel, and drummers Ron Welty (Steady Ground), Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle), and Atom Willard (Rocket from the Crypt).
