I don't know if it is actually a nice voice to hear in any style, but it's powerful, it has personality and it goes very well with the kind of music he makes. The thing I've always been surprised with, is that he reaches tones I can barely reach, and someones I just can't.

If you listen to some of the first live recordings of the Offspring Dexter sings really really well, its hugely impressive, songs like the live version of Get it Right he is just awesome. I think in studio his best vocal work would be Gone Away, but it's hard to judge since he sings so many different styles of songs.

I think Dexter's voice is terrible on its own, but he knows how to use it perfectly. It fits with the music and they build around his voice well. He has more style than talent when it comes to singing. It's weird: his voice is horrible, but the actual vocals on the songs are awesome.

the offspring is my favorite band. I don't love them because they're stellar musicians, or because they've gone through music school. I love them for their energy, lyrics, and originality. I do not think that Dexter has an amazing voice... there are times during live performances where he seriously just doesn't hit certain notes, and can't hold onto a lot of them. His voice is awesome for the style of music, and I think it's very unique and distinguishable... I really do like his voice. However, I would not consider him an awesome singer. Freddie Mercury was an outstanding singer... yet I love the offspring far more. more talent is not equal to a better band in all cases...

He doesn't have the best voice around, but he is damn good, especially considering the fact that they are a punk band (lets not get itno their pop style right now). Some live performances of his are phenomenal and, in some cases like Genocide and All I Want, they are better than the studio versions. i love dexters voice, there's no other vocalist like him, i actually do think he's one of the best out there, well in rock music anyway. i have no complaints with his studio performances, but he disapoints me live... listening to him sing the chorus of TKAA at woodstock makes my ears bleed, same with gone away and i choose, but i guess it's because he's getting older and his breathing isn't the best it was before. although i would agree with anyone that TKAA is a very difficult song to play live. i've also noticed he sings all the songs before ixnay on the hombre fairly well. anyways my favorite recording would have to be TKAA, it was the first song i realized how great his vocals were, and my favorite live performance would have to be gotta get away

i agree, a lot of people may think he has a "bad" voice but its great to me. the way he uses it and how powerful it is its just amazing. but people cant say he has abad voice wen they hear songs like: denial revisited, gone away, and maybe even i choose. in those songs, personaly i think dexter uses his voice more amazingly than other songs

Of course, Dexter doesn't always sound tremendously great live. But he's a human being and everyone has their "off" days. I've been fortunate enough to see them live twice, and he sounded great on both occasions.

I can't blame him for singing a half-step down in concert, because some of those notes get fairly high. He's gotta save his voice for all the concerts they do on their tours. When they were in Japan this last tour, they did two shows a day! I'm amazed he didn't lose his voice then.
