Just saw The Offspring have the backing music for commercials for some TV show "Cold Case" (seems like a CSI/Law & Order ripoff type of show). Might just be the Australian spots, but maybe not.

"Come Out And Play" is blaring in the background.

Little thing, but cool. Haven't seen them in any commercials for a long, long time. Since that Budweiser one back in the day, I think. And promotional stuff for movies, but that doesn't count.

A version of Come Out and Play with different singing and lyrics is the commercial for a local coffee stand.

I'm kind of wondering why the offspring chose that song... I just mean... if they're doing it to promote themselves in some way, wouldn't you think they'd do a new song? People don't really hear "come out and play" anymore and think "wow, I wonder who does that song! I should find out!" I just think that anyone who hears it will already know it and know who wrote it. To me it seems more logical for them to have chosen something like the noose, or lightning rod... where people would be like "whoa that song is really cool, I wonder who does it?". any ideas as to why they'd pick such an old song?

Because it'd go well together with the actual commercial?

Yeah, I don't think the guys would be responsible for what songs are selected for use in the media. Maybe major movies aside, they have a say in that (ie. "Orange County", in which the producers wanted a poppy "Original Prankster" type song, and they ended up giving them "Defy You" because, quoting Dexter, "we wanted to rock out that day.").

It's probably more the producers for whatever studio makes the show, they'd be choosing the tracks.

But you're right: why COAP? The age of it doesn't bother me, but it's like...teenage gang warfare. :p Can't see how it's exactly congruent with the subject matter...then again, I haven't seen the show. So meh.

true. I guess I didn't really think about the fact that they probably don't choose which song most of the times... but also good point that coap doesn't seem like it would fit with most things. again, I also haven't seen it myself.

haha... weird. I also think it's funny that marching bands (including the one at my university) have arrangements of it. what better thing to blast at the football team during a 3rd down conversion than "the gangs stake out their own campus locale, if they catch you slippin then it's all over pal!" I suppose when they say "if one guy's colors and the other's don't mix" makes sense... and "hey! man you talkin back to me? take him out!". haha that works ;)

Erm...why not? This is the General Offspring forum, right? Trust me, we've all seen more pointless stuff than this arise on this site.

Exactly the same as me. I woke my friend up in the middle of the night to make him listen :)
