Once in a century there's a Finnish movie out there that just may be worth checking out. Just *maybe*.

Jadesoturi or Jade Warrior is a Chinese-Finnish co-production. It mixes martial arts with Finnish folklore (Kalevala anyone?) and throws them around in what ends being a fantasy movie of sorts.

The trailer is out: http://www.jadesoturi.net/

Translation of the trailer (because I'm nice):

Narrator: Listen. Iron wanted to be with Fire. But Fire burned it, and Iron escaped to the marshes. In the marshes Iron hid for a long time, so long that he forgot why he was born into this world. Until Wolf ran along the marshes in the tracks of his ( ??? no idea about this word - might be "maikku" as in "morsmaikku" as in bride). In those tracks Iron rose from its hiding place.

Subtitle: The Smith has a son.

Subtitle: He will rise against the last son of Loviatar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loviatar_%28Mythology%29).

Narrator/"Wolf" again: Now you know how Iron was born but it knows nothing about you.

Guy: Do you still love me?

Girl/subtitle: For ever.

Narrator: Forge me a Sampo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampo) and I promise you, you will get your beloved back.

It *looks* pretty cool and I liked the narration but the way the dude says "Do you still love me?" ... Too modern talk, no poetry to it. Basically, if I was to say "Do you still love me?", I would say it like that. It sounds sort of ...not beautiful, very plain and ordinary. Would've liked to see them use literary language with lines like that.

And why did he say it in Finnish if the girl is Chinese? Uhh.

Either way, I'm intrigued. Mixing up Finnish folklore with Chinese martial arts, it has so much potential, I really hope it lives up to half of that potential. It has the serious potential of being the cheesiest Finnish movie ever, though. But I hope for good things.
