Okay, so i was at a party the other night and some girl fell down the stairs. She wasn't seriously injured but had cuts and bruises etc. A few people, including myself laughed when she fell.

So this got me thinking, where do you draw the line at something being funny, and something being serious/shocking etc.

For me, it would stop being funny at the point where serious injury could occur. For example someone being ran over by a car would be serious and shocking, however someone being ran into by a push bike would be funny.

So then, where do you draw the line? injury? serious injury? death? or not at all.

Injury.

But the the age of a person is also important. A kid for instance will be physically hurt more easily than me or my friends, so I draw the line earlier. Same goes to old people. Things that would probably hurt me, but not as much, would hurt them more.

It also depends how a person feels, or how his personality is when it comes to that stuff. Is he a person who enjoys laughing at himself? And he only got mildly hurt? Then I'll probably laugh.

By the way, this is nothing I do conciously. I automatically laugh at times when a friend of mine hurts himself and laughs. I guess laughing is a way of relief.

Also, an injury can be really fucking stupid, but I still wont be able to laugh if it's bad. All these videos on the net about people hurting themselves "funnily"? No thanks.

I see what you meen with the age thing. It was funny when the girl fell at the party, but if it was my grandma i'd have been horrified.

So, if someone fell over, you'd wait for confirmation they weren't injured before laughing?

I don't see how it would still be funny afterwards.

Depends on the person.

I never laugh when people fall. I don't find it funny and it makes people sad. So I kinda don't draw the line because there's no need. And the people who laugh at this kind of situations annoy me a lot.
But I can laugh when a politican or a celebrity I really don't like gets injured or dies without regretting.

Oh that's boring, I thought you were going to say you all raped her. Now that would have been worthy of a good laugh after.

When people fall they laugh to hide there pain( well... most people do), And i laugh with them to take away some of the embarisment.
And ofcorse for a bit en enjoyment, But i'd feel uwefull when i laugh right after someone falls down a flat of stairs and ends up having his leg broken or something.

Coincidently, i was told a joke at the party.

Q:What has 8 legs and makes women scream?

A:Gang Rape.

That's not funny because gangrape doesn't have 8 legs. You could've used it in chorus with Justin's jokes from yesterday.

What has 8 legs and makes women scream?
A Ukrainian rapist. (or just a Ukrainian.)

Haha, Pathfinder you seem to keep replying to me and then deleting your posts. I was having a few problems posting, so I was posting stuff as a test and then deleting it. Hope that clarifies the confusion.

It depends on who it is and how they fall, I guess.

Situation #1
An old man stumbled on the sidewalk and fell flat in the ground. I laughed.

Situation#2
A car with four guys around 20 years old dived into the river. The four were on cocaine. I laughed. One drawned.

Those two are terrible things that i don't wish on people, but I can't draw a line on what's funny and what's not. If it's funny, it's funny.
