Do you really speak to each other in acronyms, or is 'lolololol' and 'OMFG' just sarcasm?

Whiplash
09-03-2006, 08:05 AM

Steerpike

No, I meant: do you actually correspond with acronyms, or are you just taking the piss out of people who use acronyms?

Paint_It_Black

I don't get it. What's so wrong about "Haha, that was funny" or "Good one" or something similar? Do even your reactions to something funny have to be pre-programmed like that?

I think the obvious answer would be "yes". Oh, was that rhetorical?

Rhetorical? Answer or not, I don't care.

Laughing Out Loud!

Whiplash
09-03-2006, 10:42 AM
I don't really get what the big deal is. Why would you care is someone wrote down LOL or laugh out loud? But i agree posts like: OMFG ROFLFEST LOL ROFL, are pretty anoying.

Because it suggests that you're not putting any effort into making a cohesive point. This subsequently leads to people either thinking that you're too stupid to have an extensive vocabulary, or to them just ignoring you completely. The same usually applies with emoticons, but I'm not too hung up on those.

Oh my gosh, what the fuck, laugh out loud

Rolling on the floor laughing my fucking ass off

Smiley face emoticon.

StreerPike, this board welcomes you with open arms. So far you seem intelligent.

It has gotten to the point where most people in this board just use those acronyms an ironic tone, not because they're genuinely stupid. If you visit the board long enough, you could usually tell which ones are the idiots and which ones are just saying lol in a joking manner. H1T_That could type coherently when he wants to, but I wouldn't hold the 'lolol" against him in this type of thread since it's not exactly a serious thread.

Not really amusing to me personally. Just the landmower reference at the end of the boy's letter made me smile a little.

I guess that's only because we are used to a whole different category of newcomers instead of those who come here and criticise.

I think my brain only half registered that fact. I read some posts, glanced up at the location, and it must have seemed like such an impossibility that my subconscious just disregarded the evidence.

Dunno. I have a bit of a history of assuming stuff like that incorrectly. Right Eve?

That's true, although pretty much everyone assumed that.

Exactly. I'm suddenly filled with a patriotic hope.
