Seriously, stop it. If you're going to reply, at least know what you're replying to. I understand that everyone thinks that their opinion/lame joke/pithy comment is soooo fucking valuable that they're under some sort of duty of care to tell it to everybody ; whether they know what they're talking about or not ; but please, your uninformed comments are not that fucking important.

Only mine are.

I still think it's alright when Andy does it.

Too long, didn't read.

I considered making that joke myself, just to keep idiots from using it. I didn't expect the first idiot would be you. For shame.

Ok that I love them all post was fucking stupid and i'm sorry about that.

I get your point now Justin< I also hate the people who do that sort of things.
I always try to read as many posts as is needed to take part in the discussion.

Lame jokes suck :[

And in general I agree, but the thing is that sometimes a topic is 30 replies long and half of them are by people who you dont respect/dont often agree with. And if the subject happens to be a little more meaningful (thus the replies being longer than average) it is difficult to give a damn about the opinions of people who you dont respect.
If this situation accurs and I still want to reply, I just use said statement and imply that if I repeat what has already been said it's not necessarily because I'm a horribly dumb person, but because I havent read everybody's posts.
That doesnt mean that my opinion matters more than others, though.

You make a point of not reading the opinions of people you often disagree with?

you know what "/" means?
and/or is what I meant with it. And now that we point it out again...Sometimes it's frustrating to read a person's opinion on a specific subject over and over and over. God knows how often I've argued with some people about a specific thing and they are still unwilling to at least be friendly about it. I think ignoring them would be the best in that case. What's wrong with that?

agreed. in topics that have been discussed before, i tend to skip the replies of people i already know i disagree with - not because i can't handle a different opinion or i'm afraid of confrontation - but because, in certain cases, their replies are completely predictable, like automated away messages.

Yes, that's what I meant. Opinions I already know they have on subject xy. I just cant express my thoughts at all. gjkdnrs.

If monotonous repitition annoys you, I'm just wondering why you bother to post your opinions on topics that have been discussed before, apparantly so often that you can predict other peoples opinions without reading them.

I still think it's alright when Andy does it.

Everything about Andy is just vaguely cute. Everything's alright when Andy does it. It wouldn't matter if this thread was about genocide, your post would still be appropriate and correct.

In general I dislike people jumping in without reading the replies, but on certain topics it's alright and sometimes even advisable. And you never need to read ALL replies, it's completely ok to skim past people you expect to be worthless. I would never get around to replying to anything if I read everyones worthless replies.

if i don't have anything new to contribute, i usually refrain from it.

but if the topic has a different twist, a new story behind it, or i feel like i can offer a different perspective, i will reply to it even though i've already discussed a similar matter.

it's not only about already discussed stuff, though. sometimes the topic is new, but deals with the same basic issues that some posters have knee-jerk reactions to.

I know what nina's saying. My situation, though, is less of "if I don't agree with or respect them", and more of "if I know what they're going to have said is moronic". I tend to not read a lot of posts by that anal dude, and by no way, and by noodlesfan, for instance. Just because, even if they ARE serious (which is rare for the first and last), their posts don't add anything and just annoy me. It's better to just skip them than to get annoyed and want to reply about that.

Oh, geez. Only moments ago did I realize that the topic of this thread was not specifically for this thread. I was all "how are we supposed to know what we're replying to when there's only one post in the thread?"

Yeah.

Yeah.

Amazing. Same thought I had!

On-Topic: I think it depends on how long the thread is, just that. If there's people that have different opinions than you I'd personally still read, unless the only thing this person does is saying things like "you're an idiot" because they don't agree. That kind of endless conversations shouldn't be allowed, GoD!
