I needed to get Growlithe through trade. I evolved Growlith into Arcanine when I realized Ponyta is the only wild fire pokemon. Magby is around if you insert a GBA Pokemon game or something like that. I sold all of mines.

Well, once you beat the Elite four and get the National Pokedex, you can go to the island in the top-right corner of the map. One of the areas there has both wild Slugma and Magcargo. But I imported it from Sapphire.

It was the only fire one I had, because I had to be an idiot and choose Mudkip for my starter.

Not really. I have a Kadabra that I caught as a level 8 Abra early on. And of course there are zubat, geodude, and onix around. But there are some more of the 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd generations that are unlocked later.

Yeah, the DS/Pearl are an early bday present from my family because of a trip I'm taking soon. If you have a wifi thing you can basically trade or fight with anyone else who has one. It's like DS interwebs.

To get pokemon from older games, you can put an Advance/color/normal game into the other slot (the DS slot is different), and once a day you can import one pokemon from your older teams in, and they'll appear in this certain patch.

Also, since the DS has the censor thing, you don't have to use a cord to connect to someone anymore.

Oh, and digging underground is incredibly fun.

And yes it is awesome. I battled with a friend over the weekend; won five out of seven times. The first four were a blow out. After that we took a break, and the next time he had made his level 34 prinplup into a level 39 Empoleon, which was a bit painful. My level 31 Luxray could only stand up to it if it were already damaged. On the third battle, we were both on our last pokemon: Luxray vs. Empoleon. I said, "this battle comes down to whether Thunder hits you or not." I was wrong. It hit him. Left him with 1hp. He killed me.

But we also traded. I got a Murkrow and Stunky; both dark pokemon, which I like. I was also able to evolve my Kadabra into Alakazam, and he evolved his Haunter into Gengar, so I got that pokedex as well. My problem right now is that I have 3 level 27 pokemon that I can't raise above level 30 because I don't have the right badges (they're traded). My other pokemon are level 36 Infernape, 36 Luxray, and 36 Alakazam. I wanted a Mothim, but my Burmy was female so it evolved into Wormadam instead.

I was pretty fucking disappointed when I realized that you can't breed shiny pokemon. I have a really crappy shiny pokemon, and I couldn't resist giving it all the best TMs and everything. but he still sucks and I can't use those TMs anymore.
also, the chance of a shiny pokemon is like 1 to 8000. just thought I'd let you know how rare it is.

Oh I know that. And you should NEVER use a shiny pokemon as a part of your team, unless its a starter or something, since they all have lower base stats than normal. Which did you have?

Agreed. Even in Sapphire, Sableye was one of my favorite pokemon. You just have to be careful who you put it against, and give it a decent def/sp. def boosting attack.

As for Sableye, you just need to play to its STAB bonuses. Faint Attack/Night Shade are both awesome attacks. Shadow Punch is better than Night Shade if he can learn that.

oh yeah. it has shadow ball, brick break, shock wave, and faint attack. wasted most of it's EVs on defense and attack. almost half-way when I learned about them. it's like 15 level ahead of the alite 4, but it still can't seem to i hit ko any pokemon. even with super effectives.

I'm a rebel and got Pearl. but I later realized that Seel/Dewgong are Diamond only, so now I'm sad.

Right now I only have two badges, and my six best pokemon are Monferno (31), Luxray (30), Kadabra (30), Chatot (25), Drifloon (22; caught at 22), Garydos (20; caught magikarp at 19).

I'm not going to evolve Monferno until he lears Flare Blitz at level 49.

I prefer Gyarados, personally.

P.S. My Hitmonlee would destroy all ... except ghosts and physic pokemon.

Btw, I started playing pokemon yellow on an emu. I have a level 45 Nidoking, Charizard, Jolteon, and Blastoise, with four badges. The speedframe button (space bar) makes training so freaking easy it's almost not fair.

Then you're a fucking idiot.

No, seriously. I overtrain, I know. I have a level 25 Butterfree, 26 Charmander, and 25 Nidoking and i'm about to fight Misty (on FireRed). But beyond that, you're screwing your stats. Until you get later in the game, most pokemon have bad EVs, which affect how your stats grow. By doing that, you had a Blastoise that might actually be weaker than a level 30 wartortle that trained on say Cinnabar Island.

I kept my Wartortle (in firered) until level 44 because that's when it learned Hydro Pump.

I'm enjoying Fire Red a lot more, though. Why does Zapdos have to be so fucking hard to catch? I had it down to 1hp (I know it was 1hp, because I hit it with a move that only did 1 damage, and it fainted), it was paralyzed, and I used 50 ultra balls and none worked. The balls didn't even shake until the twelfth. I remember the birds (Zapdos especially) being hard to catch, harder than Mewtwo even, but not THIS hard. I think I used 32 balls on it in the original red/blue, and that was the most I ever had to use for anything. Jesus Christ.
