Hello.

What plugin or plugins for Winamp do you recommend?

I'm recommending Ogg-Vorbis encoder v1-1 (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=143936). It's an very easy and good format converter. Makes you CD-tracks, mp3, wav and many other formats into .ogg, even if it is only said to be an CD encoder.

.ogg files downright irritate me, I have nothing that plays/converts them, plus does anyone actually use them?!

I use winamp. What do you use?

i use banshee and sometimes exaile.

what i meant is that the way music on the desktop is treated has been evolving, and winamp no longer fits very well.

I still use WinAmp, and I've never run into any problems aside from the occasional annoying misclick.

The reason I use winamp is that, of the programs that audioscrobbler supports, I like winamp the best. I straight-up hate wmp and especially iTunes. I really like creative media source, but it just doesn't work with audioscrobbler.

What's better about the programs you use?

I have a history of bad problems with WinAmp. Just bad luck sort of things more than anything else, but as so I don't use it often. Usually I just listen to my iHome. But on the computer I mostly use wmp because of the Audioscribbler plugin/easy accessibility, and winamp once in a while for those annoying/obscure extensions.

By the way, WinAmp came with OGG playability two updates ago for me.

the entire desktop is moving toward having a more ingrained online presence, and those applications work on that. they automatically bring in shoutcast and last.fm recommendations and playlists, etc etc etc.

basically i have no need for anything other than winamp. my 150 gigs of music isnt huge, but still, wtf do i need shoutcasts for? winamp is fine. this is a winamp plug in thread, not a hurrr use this instead thread.

with that said..

I use winamp with no plugins. I don't need it to do anything more than what it already does.

I use the tray control plugin. Other than that... all the plugins were already there.

I find it hard to believe that's you've tried them all... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audioscrobbler#Audioscrobbler_plugin)

I personally use foobar2000, which I think is made by some (ex-)Winamp duder. It's simple and advanced at the same time!

I used to use Winamp though, but I never really liked it. I just didn't bother to look for anything else.

I didn't mean for it to sound like I've used them all. I meant that of the ones I have that I know it supports... which are winamp, wmp and itunes.

I used to love WinAmp and how I could create visualizations with it. Maybe that was a plug-in. Still, it rocked. But iLike iTunes best, and I don't know of another way to get my podcasts.

I mainly use WMP. As for .ogg files, I don't mind them ever since I got a codec. They seem to have good quality and Wiki uses them in audio files and samples frequently, so it's kinda useful to have.

I had been using Winamp a long time ago. I hated WMP for some unknown reason, now I love it. I don't have to install anything. I don't feel like trying anything new.
