But still, the initial post of his thread is superior to the initial post of this one, is it not? Forget who started it, that thread is better than this.

Now, I'll admit if Lodat and Ozy made identical threads, there would still be a difference in reactions. If they both made an identical awesome thread, Ozy's would receive probably more replies. It wouldn't mean that Lodat's thread was any less appreciated, only that people don't want to openly praise him as much because in general he's a douche. And I ask again, what's wrong with that? What's wrong with not praising someone you don't like?

Let's reverse that and assume they both made identical shitty threads. Lodat's would be full of people saying "fail". Ozy's would just get very few replies and die a quick death. Again, the subject matter would be perceived correctly, and only the response would differ. Why is this? Because Lodat fails constantly and deserves to be berated for it. Ozy doesn't, so if he makes an occasional slip he's earned the right to have it be overlooked.

So yes, there is absolutely a difference in reaction based on the respectability of the thread starter. That does not mean that the subject matter is not being given a fair appraisal though. And if somehow, by some miracle, Lodat started making consistently good threads he would eventually acquire those same privileges as all respected members.

The problem arises when some bottom feeding BBS scum manages to make a good thread and expects to be instantly adored for it. They see a "1337" person do something similar and receive high praise, and they want that high praise too. When they don't receive quite so much of it they start screaming about "1337", and favoritism, and cliques. They don't understand that it takes more than one good post to earn lasting respect. They don't understand that some of the love is not just for the current good post, but for the ten that came before it, and the anticipation of the one coming tomorrow.

All seems pretty simple to me. And fair.
