I've never done that with soup, but I do it with coffee constantly. I always get so excited by the smell, and take a big sip and end up not being able to taste the rest of the cup.

croquet hoop? Damn. I was using super glue. I've been missing out, it seems. though hammering it flat is hard to do, how do you get it to lay on a flat surface and have the coordination? it's usually just easier to get some pliers.

Super glue works, but only if its that stuff that really burns.
The handy thing about a croquet hoop is that its double pointed, it's hard to miss your tongue when one end is jammed directly into your hand.
