They were never Punk. They're on the same level as old green day, which people claim is Punk but actually isn't and that's only on their first album.

Let's not get into an arguement about who's punk and who isn't punk, nobody will win.

So tell me what they were at the beginning if they were not punk...

The "friggin' freight train" let me think that the new album will be similary than Ignition, but I don't why :D

You got to be kidding. What about Ignition? Isn`t that punk?
Green Day was never a punk band, they`re just 3 assholes heavily commercialized, pretending to be another one "I`m against the goverment".

it`s true that The Offspring isn`t a punk band anymore, but they were one for a while.

Actually Green Days really early stuff was supposed to be pretty punk, like 1,039 Smoothed out Slappy hours.

Agreed, couldn't have said that better. I would say that offspring's first 3 albums would be classed as punk and then they changed more to Punk/Rock and some songs even to Punk/Pop. And Green Day is just some stupid wannabe posers.

Im not sure....

HOWEVER...i know all of you will probably respond and say "be patient etc etc" but seriously....where the fuck is the album already? Recording since November of 06? I have been a fan since '94 and i have a lot of patience...but 8 months is pushing it. Sorry guys.

they may have been working for quite a while, but between '89's self titled album and '92's ignition, there is quite a positive difference. the same can be said about ignition and smash. be patient and soon enough the new album will be here

Green Day's first album was nearly perfect pop-punk. The Offspring's was mostly real punk, it was a lot like TSOL.

Dumbass, they had TWO OR THREE political songs on their newest album. Before that they were never really political at all. The Offspring has had a socio political writing tendency since the very beginning.

Haven`t you heard American Idiot? every damn song is political-related, and sincerily they talk about the same thing. Apart of that, you said that they were never political...but i wonder: for more than a decade they don`t talk about politics, then on the next album they talk entirely of them? what happened in the middle? and American Idiot was released in 2004, in that period evey fucking band was complaining about politics. I don`t know, that should be called social/commercial tendency?

Yeah it`s true that The Offspring had a political writing since the beggining, and that fact itself proves that they were a punk band once. Don`t get me wrong, I don`t think that the punk music only goes through the lirycs, but you can`t call yourself punk after writting such song as Wake me up when september ends (sorry Greenday fans that`s what I think don`t get offended)

AMERICAN IDIOT HAD TWO POLITICAL SONGS.

The title track, and Holiday. That's it. Wake Me Up When September Ends was about Billie Joe's dad dying of cancer, and Samuel Bayer made the video political. The album really wasn't very political.

Okay, enough with Green day. Yes, overall, many people see American Idiot as a political album. Who wouldnt?

Saying that The Offspring has been political from there beginning could be looked upon in many ways. "Kill The President" off the self-titled could be called political, and some here and there on Americana, showing how somethings are wrong with this country, But in interviews such as this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-Si0MlL_JA It shows that The Offspring cares about Politics, but is not a political band, as said by Noodles in that interview.
