BTW, this link has:

Gimp - Smiles For Macavity
Catch 22 - Rules Of The Game
One Cool Guy - From Downtown

Kalnoky's the singer for the first two of them; OCG is basically the brass section from Streetlight with a different band.

EDIT: ANYONE GOING TO A STREETLIGHT SHOW IN THE NEAR FUTURE: buy The Stitch Up's album and upload it? I didn't have enough money for it, but I wanted it. It's the singer from MU330 playing nonska. It's good, they put on a good show, you should buy the cd. For me.

Some of these might be a stretch, but I figured I'd ask while I upload The Good Life's Help Wanted Nights (http://www.sendspace.com/file/t3zwwv).

1. The Stitch Up - Attitude Adjuster
2. The Roots - Phrenology (or whichever album any of you think is their best)
3. Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Twinkle Echo
4. Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Pocket Symphonies For Lonely Subway Cars (or The First Two Albums or whatever else you have that isn't Etiquette, which I already have)
5. The Faint - Danse Macabre (http://404clients.enterthe404.com/SUCKboy/the%20faint/Danse%20Macabre.rar) (thank you, Shelby, for finding this one)
6. The Hold Steady - Almost Killed Me

Thanks in advance? I plan on buying The Stitch Up's album if no one here has it, so if anyone else is looking for it, I could upload it.

EDIT: Catchy poppy-punky ska: MU330 - Self-Titled (http://www.sendspace.com/file/iy2tyf). The lead singer is the same guy from The Stitch Up, whose cd is still on my list, should any of you buy it on the Streetlight Manifesto tour or manage to find it.

Well, their newer stuff (Cruzential not included) is pretty much your basic indie-rock. I know that David Bowie and Lou Reed appeared on their newest record, so that's a pretty good indicator of their current sound. Don't have it though.

But their earlier stuff (Cruzential included) would best be described as hardcore groove funk-ish... does that make sense?

Let me know if you want me to upload more.

True, but they don't really bring much humor into their sound which Disco Volante is full of. Despite the musical influences of Patton and co., the vibe of the album reminds me more of Deloused in the sense that it leaves me with the impression that the band HAD to make it or their heads would've exploded.

The only other Doseone related thing I've been able to get so far is the first Subtle album which is a lot less difficult. I could upload that if you want. It's impossible to find anything of theirs anywhere without going online.

Per:

I was going to say no since I haven't been listening to as much as I usually do lately, but then I realized that yes, I've still heard some awesome stuff. Here are a few songs.

The Joel Plaskett Emergency - A Million Dollars

A song from an older E.P. I had a short period of obsession with it. Pop!

http://download.yousendit.com/482E30217A4F15EC

Two Hours Traffic - Heroes of the Sidewalk

Extreme pop! Simple tune but I love it.

http://download.yousendit.com/EA4C9D7359FB7F33

The Sadies - Anna Leigh

Saw this band and they were outstanding. Lots of awesome instrumental stuff. I decided to classify them as psycho-surf-country. This is a song from their newest album.

http://download.yousendit.com/C383783632B85C84

Cuff the Duke - If I Live or if I Die

Just released a new album. And they just played in Victoria and they were amazing! This is their "single" I guess. Alt country.

http://download.yousendit.com/D60CA88B540C515D

Built to Spill - Broken Chairs

This isn't the usual Michelle selection. Saw this band a while ago too. Loved a few songs, thought some got a little tedious instrumentally. Their fans LOVED them. The dudes behind me were comparing them to Fugazi. Jake, do you know this band? Anyway, I like this song. Other people in this thread who like instrumental/heavier (not that this is particularly heavy) stuff should download this if they don't know the band.

I'm looking for some electronic music (Johnny help me out!). Actually Johnny if you got some Depeche Mode I should hear. Digital Emotion? The Human League? All that lame 80's stuff plx.

Ok. I ignored all of Depeche Mode's more "mature" stuff and purposely filled this with random cheesy ones. The rest were completely random electrosynthy tracks I have. Hope you enjoy. And I hope everyone checks this out.

Jakebert: Download The BTMI! album; it's skapunx, but it's actually good. Unlike 95% of all ska. I hate how my favorite bands play a genre of music I generally can't stand :(

PilZ: I don't know if the Bright Eyes link that BREAK posted is still active, but not only is that cd depressing, but it's also FUCKING AMAZING. Also, BTMI! is good for basically all point in time and I'm going to continue to whore this band until people listen to it. Try the Red House Painters albums Jakebert put up. Tell me if Ocean Beach, the one from a ways back doesn't work; I'll upload it for him.

What do you want by depressing? The feel, or what? One of my Better Than Ezra CDs definitely has some depression-esque tracks, but not really the lyrics to fit. Same thing for a bunch of REM songs; Automatic for the People would be the best fit, I think. Tell me if you want either one.

I don't know if the Bright Eyes link that BREAK posted is still active, but not only is that cd depressing, but it's also FUCKING AMAZING.

I really, really didn't like the opening track to that album but the rest was a lot better. After wiki-ing Conor Oberst, apparently he was a founding member of the Faint and was kicked out with the explanation that "He's always been a good songwriter, but it just wasn't a good fit. He was real sloppy and he would scream all the time when we would be sitting down and trying to play mellow music." I agree with this. His music in general seems very sloppy, but it works better than I was expecting it to. Also, apparently he and Tim Kasher had a band called Commander Venus before either of them got popular with their other projects. Their two albums were released when he was 15 and 17 respectively.

Josh: I agree with you on the first song, but the rest of the cd is a masterpiece. Also, I have Conor Oberst's other band's cd, Desaparecidos - Read Music/Speak Spanish, and I guess it sounds like what he wanted The Faint to sound like. It's one of the best cds I've ever heard; I'll upload it tomorrow.

edit: Betty, I think you might like this.

Neko Case? I have that album... haven't listened to it too much. I really like "Hold On" (Hold On, Hold On?) And it's neat cause I bought this album by the Sadies and she performed that song with them as a guest artist.

She's a fabulous singer, and she was tons of fun when I saw her recently with the New Pornographers. Couple summers ago I went to see her solo and was pretty bored. Pretty slowish, too country, etc.

I just don't find that album compares to say... CAT POWER (I am in love). Not sure if they're even comparable... but I don't listen to many female vocalists.

I'll upload something else on the list eventually... ha. Perhaps the new Weakerthans... or well... whatever hasn't been put up by the time I decide to do it.

***

Break... yeah... I guess the reason I mainly ask about Built to Spill is cause the people that like them seem to REALLY like them so I figured maybe there was something to 'em that I just didn't get (although, like I said, a few songs were pretty great).

Johnny, I totally loved what you uploaded. I'm also glad to finally have heard It's A Sin, I had a friend who recently left the RCP-USA and wrote an essay about it called It's a Sin (http://www.soviet-empire.com/ussr/viewtopic.php?t=43090). Very interesting article actually because everyone who has come across the RCP-USA has found them very annoying, and now you can see that they are no better on the inside, so to speak. (They're the ones who mention Bob Avakian in every other sentence.)

Let's see I really enjoyed the Metro, Space Invaders are Smoking Grass, Love Spy, Heartbreaker, The Line of Fire. And from Depeche Mode, A Question of Time is awesome, Never Let Me Down Again, Photographic, and World In My Eyes, s'all very good.

Betty, Shockingly enough I still reallly like the Joel Plaskett Emergency and the The Weakerthans. Cuff the Duke and Built to Spill were a surprise though. But very good. And of course I enjoyed Two Hours Traffic and the Sadies. I agree with you though that heavily instrumental stuff is often annoying. People who like it don't seem to realize it's meant to be enjoyed when you're stoned. Idiots.

Also, guys, I think we should post reviews/information, and possibly album covers about albums we upload for people like this. That way, people can look and download music they have never heard of before and they can easily find when albums have been posted because the cover will catch their eye. I think it would be helpful, plus I reupped Brand New for PilZ-E and his depressing music:

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf900/f931/f93154bm0s5.jpg
Brand New - Deja Entendu (http://www.sendspace.com/file/b1yaiu)
As the popularity of emo and punk-pop plateaued, many bands had a lot to prove to stay in the game. As of 2003, Brand New had sidestepped any notion that they'd be stuck in the prototypical mold found on Your Favorite Weapon. Unlike their debut, Deja Entendu isn't all about bitter breakups and doesn't fall into a permanent punk-pop hole. Produced by Steven Haigler (Pixies, Quicksand), this sophomore effort finds Brand New maturing, reaching for textures and song structures instead of clichés. They still, however, alternate their full-on blasts with slower acoustic work, which doesn't hurt.

I might have "Ghost Tigers Rise" on my computer, but I'm not sure, since I may have deleted it when I realized I don't really care for Tiger Army.

Also, feedback on the Nick Drake: omfg I can't believe it took me this long to start listening to him. He's everything I love about folk music wrapped up into one man.

I can upload the Self Titled tomorrow.

I don't like Tiger Army anymore, though. Music From Regions Beyond sealed it for me that they'll never write music that I like. It's annoying, though, because they sound really great, just they're bad songwriters. Musically and lyrically.

Jakebert
12-05-2007, 10:24 PM
I have the album, and I have to agree with you. They have a lot of interesting ideas, but they simply aren't good enough to get them out in a way that I find interesting.

I think they're decent song writers, at least on Music from Regions Beyond. I like the country-punk sound, and I enjoy the singer's voice quite a bit. I think there are a few very well crafted songs on the album, though it's a bit over-produced in a lot of places. I've heard a few older songs, and I thought they sounded like a more country-ish version of AFI's older stuff in a lot of ways.

Edit: thanks Jakebert.
I'll try to upload Music from Regions Beyond tonight or tomorrow.

Which Spoon album is best to start with?

Okay, both you and Brianna asked this question, and Jake didn't answer, so I will.

I've listened to all of those and I still prefer the first, "A Series of Sneaks." It also has one of my favourite songs in the entire world (seriously, like in my top 50) on it, "Laffitte Don't Fail Me Now." I've listened to that song about a bazillion times and I still love it every time.

As for Spoon, I think I've decided that they're too boring. They have some of the catchiest riffs and parts of songs ever, but overall they can get repetitive and blah. I concluded this even more when I saw them live recently and I was kinda bored by the set, even though I know most of their stuff and have been a fan for years. I'm just being critical though, I still love Spoon. The albums are good in the background. And there are always a few outstanding songs on each album. "A Series of Sneaks" contains a bunch of good songs.
