As a fan of white rap (Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Trik Turner, Quarashi, Fanta Vier), and a fan of Jay Z... and even Eminem (particularly the Marshall Mathers LP), can someone upload some rap that I might like? I can't really stand rap whose lyrics is just berating women, bragging about drug use, and threatening to kill people. I can't stand Tupac, Dr Dre, 50 Cent, Nelly, Ludacris, and stuff of that sort (including most of what's on the radio in general). Tupac I really don't get... he seems to rap about all the same stuff as the others, but people go on about how amazing he was. I had his greatest hits, I think I recently deleted them, because I only liked one song.

Anyway, I'd like more rap, but it has to have lyrics that stray from that typical norm. Also, I like stuff with a good background. The "beats" in like, Snoop's songs and Nelly's songs are boring and don't catch my attention at all.

Can anyone help me out and upload some stuff for me?? Thanksomuch!

True. I was going to say something about that but you beat me to it.

I think the best safety rap band for white people like me is probably Outkast. I can upload some of their stuff later if no one else does it first. Also, Subtle are fucking fantastic, though they're more experimental than anything so I'm not sure if they're what you're looking for. I've uploaded their two full lengths here before but the links are probably dead by now. I was already planning on uploading some of their non-LP stuff that I finally caved and downloaded last night (they're impossible to find in stores).

JohnnyNemesis

97% of Eminem's song focus almost solely on berating women, and about half of them brag about drug use. Heck, the Marshall Mathers LP has a song called "Drug Ballad". He's just about the absolute worst when it comes to bragging about drug use.

That sounds interesting, could you upload it? I'm going to grab the Gravediggaz album too. Also, I'll have Subtle's seasonal EPs, plus their re-re-mix albums up either today or tomorrow. The seasonal things are neat but not everything on them is essential, but what I've heard off the re-re-mix things so far has been fantastic. Just as good as their regular albums which was really surprising. I guess it's because after they get the remix back from whoever they sent it to (Beck, Mike Patton, TV on the Radio, etc.) the band takes it and reworks it again, with the music and often times even the lyrics ending up completely different from the original version, essentially making whole new Subtle songs. Plus there's a few unedited b-sides on each of them.

Nah, Eminem raps about like his mom, his daughter, and I think his best lyrics were in "Lose Yourself". Yeah, he has some songs that are about drugs and stuff, but his stuff about women comes across to me as very sarcastic.

Jay Z? Sure, his first couple albums had a lot of that shit (and I don't really like his earlier albums much), but his newer stuff is full of rather good lyrics and better topics.

True. I was going to say something about that but you beat me to it.

The best part of rap is the degradation and the drugs. Why else would anyone listen to the entire genre? Like, seriously, nearly all of my favorite rappers rap nearly entirely about murder, berating women, doing drugs, or some beautiful combination of the three.

PS: Check out Lupe Fiasco. Rick uploaded his newest somewhere in this forum, but I don't know whether it was here or in the rap thread, you'll probably like it, Bri.

Because those kinds of topics don't interest me? I kind of prefer things I can understand and/or relate to somehow. And things that don't disgust me.

I have one Quarashi album, Jinx. That and Guerilla Disco are their only albums. Which album do you like more? I've considered getting Guerilla Disco, but I've been unsure as to whether or not it's worth it. I really like "Stick em Up". Good song. And yeah, I like that their background music is rather rockish. Makes it more interesting to me.

I don't feel like digging through two threads to try to find one link that might not even be available anymore... and since you like the kind of rap I hate, I don't know if I trust your opinion. ;)

Dälek - Abandoned Language (http://www.sendspace.com/file/3xk5dj)

On their fourth record, Abandoned Language, electronica- and progressive-minded rap group Dälek continues their exploration of the netherworlds of hip-hop, where dark, plodding, sewer-gas production churns with MC/producer dälek's nearly spoken rhymes. Beats are moody and delicately urgent, live strings and horns mix in with hollow drums and delayed keyboard chords, and everything is very purposeful, even in the occasional cacophony that folds itself out from amid the slow melody. The same attention to detail and effect is given to the lyrics, which again and again return to the idea of language, both oral and written. It's not a concept album, but it has definite themes that it examines. "The tongues I speak intrinsic/Linguistics lodged in larynx made the words you spit transparent," dälek rhymes in "Isolated Stare," where he hails the power of communication and its ability to guide and direct, while on "Bricks Crumble," he recognizes its longevity, how it can remain while the physical inevitably cannot. "Words strengthen emotions they foster/Bricks crumble under feet of this author," he says, acknowledging that even he is reduced to transience while what he writes goes on. But the MC, despite the fact that his career revolves around his syntactical ability, is also aware of language's limitations. The songs on the album have much more time and space dedicated to instrumental wanderings than to words -- "Lynch," in fact, has no lyrics at all -- as if he and co-producer Oktopus realize that there are things that just can't be said, that are better conveyed through notes and chords, that sometimes "tongues stick" and stories are "scripted" and "the words we speak are mad tarnished," that mortality and flawed humanity get in the way of pure communication. This certainly is the cause of some conflict for Dälek, heard in the way the saxophones twist with the violins, in the way the vocals distort and fade out, a conflict that is never quite resolved. Instead, the album does what all great art does: guides its audience without giving them concrete answers (or even directions), forcing them to think for themselves instead of blindly following others, and eventually leading them, hopefully, to some kind of greater, albeit more complex, understanding of things.

Subtle - A New White and Subtle - For Hero: For Fool (http://www.sendspace.com/file/vcleej)
I know I upped them before, but I stress again, everyone needs to check these two albums out and give them a few spins, even though I don't exactly expect everyone to like them. This means you too, Rick! I haven't listened to a band this obsessively in so long.

On ‘Bed To The Bills’, post-rock is raped by demented Brian Wilson melodies and trampled by doseone’s nasal highs and relentlessly fluent flow. That flow, that flow that seems to mould into something altogether different at every song gap, is not so much a flow but a cadence used to thread his free verse into the beats allowing the record to spontaneously turn yet retain a sensationally entrancing grasp on beat and listener. When I say this, I mean it completely: doseone’s vocal performance on For Hero: For Fool will go down in legend as one of hip-hop’s finest.

Subtle - Wishingbone (http://download.yousendit.com/718F02DD1CE94E09) The "sister" album to A New White. It contains re-re-mixes, guest appearances and b-sides.
Subtle - Yell&Ice (http://download.yousendit.com/230257060919010C) The "sister" album to For Hero: For Fool. Both of these are right on par with their regular albums and include guest appearances from everyone ranging from Beck to TV on the Radio to Wolf Parade to Notwist to Mike Patton.

Subtle - Seasonal albums (http://www.sendspace.com/file/hyqufx)
Their pre-New White recordings. They tend to lean even more towards the experimental end of things, with the winter EP being a single 36 minute improvised, instrumental ambient thing (that unfortunately never really does anything). A lot of the stuff is still great but it's very obvious they were still trying to find their footing at this point.
13 & God (http://download.yousendit.com/78F7F83A3BE4DC68)
Billed as Themselves + the Notwist, they're really more half of Subtle + the Notwist when it comes to sound and lyrics (they mention Hour Hero Yes in one of their songs). My only problem with the album is that aside from a few spots here and there, the two sounds never really blend together. Like, one part will sound pretty much like the Notwist and one part will sound like Subtle/themselves with only a few pieces that don't sound squarely like either. Not that either sound is bad or anything like that though.

Actually when I mentioned the guest people I meant those individuals were split between the two albums.

Wishingbone has: Mike Patton, Beck, Notwist/Console, Hrvatski, Ms. John Soda, Alexei Perry from Handsome Furs, and Fog.
Yell&Ice has: Why?, Wolf Parade, TV on the Radio, Dosh, Fog, Notwist, and Chris Adams from Hood.

Couldn't agree more. Granted he is credited for advocating equality and detailing ghetto life, but plenty of other rappers have done that and done it much better than he ever did. 2Pac just seems like your average hip-hop star to me - he was a self-confessed thug, he sexually abused women and was constantly shooting it out with his enemies. He has a handful of decent songs, but he is overrated beyond belief.

Also, from your description it strikes me you'd enjoy Buck 65 a fair bit. I'll get his latest album up pretty soon.

JohnnyNemesis
01-10-2008, 05:28 AM
You really have to place 2Pac within his own context and understand what he was doing at the time. There's a lot more going on with his music than what appears on the surface, and he wasn't just "detailing the ghetto life", because there's no such thing as some universal ghetto life. Sure, white folks tend to think there is, but there isn't. Any criticism of 2Pac that comes so far after the fact ("the fact" here being his entire life and career) completely loses sense of what era he was working in and what he was doing for himself, the West Coast, and the early 90s, and as a result, falls flat. He's just one of those artists you had to experience during their prime to truly understand why their work had such impact.

Plus, you can never, ever judge any artist based even slightly on their Greatest Hits or singles collections, considering that those are their most shallow and shitty tracks about 99.99999% of the time. In fact, I'd say well over 95% of the shit that was released after his death should not even be part of any discussion. Finally, there's a helluva lot more to both hip-hop and rap than what's said on the record. He had an innovative flow and production team, too.

I've no doubt he was a revolutionary during his era. And I'm not about to suggest there is some "universal ghetto life" either, I thought it was obvious enough that I meant he was describing the life of the ghetto that he grew up that I didn't have to specify that. You're probably right, I probably would've enjoyed him a lot more had I been around when he was around in his prime. I'm basing my belief of him being incredibly overhyped on his music alone. It's good, in some cases it's great, but there's plenty better in his genre. Now matter how influential he may have been I don't think he deserves to bare the title "greatest rapper of all time" if his work doesn't stand the test of time.

I'm also not formulating my opinion on him on anything released after his death, at least I don't think so. And you're right about greatest hits/singles collection albums. In 9 out of 10 of cases they're released to cash in on an artists success and make money for their recording industry. But I fail to see how it's at all relevant here. I don't think I even mentioned anything about a greatest hits album, and I have heard 2Pac beyond the hundreds of compilations released after his death.

I hear ya. But in my opinion, his work does stand those tests, it just needs to be understood both within its own temporal context and how it's influenced so many rappers since. Well over half of hip-hop now is simply following 2Pac's lead, so while it may seem like he's similar to many other rappers, it's only because they're all trying to be him and coming up short.

Which, if you wanted to, you could use to make the argument that 2Pac single-handedly ruined mainstream rap.

Which isn't true. He and Biggie both ruined it together.

This convo should be moved to the rap thread, methinks, so that people can upload and download in peace. I might move the posts over, not sure. Anyway, I don't think those two should get the blame for "ruining" mainstream rap, especially considering the fact that their art was fucking phenomenal.

And if anyone ruined mainstream rap, it's either P. Diddy, Master P, or Eminem. But the very idea that mainstream rap was ruined by any small group of people is way too complex to pin down.

As far as Biggie and Pac go, it's the music press that martyred them even when they were alive that promotes this stupid-ass desire to mimic them, along with the new rappers who decide to go that route, who should be blamed. Biggie and Pac did beautiful things. The others looked for cheap ways to get dough.

Not to mention, the overcommercialization of shit like freestyle battles. Don't even get me started.

Master P

Dear lord, how did I forget about that cocksucker? Surely he deserves the most blame.

I'll try to keep this short so it doesn't devolve into too deep a conversation (though I don't anticipate many people will want to get in on it anyway), but yes, Big deserves part of the blame for helping Diddy get his foot in the door as a rapper, which opened it up for shitheads like Ma$e (and yes, I know Puff had a hand in Biggie's fame in the first place, etc., but it still happened that way), thereby making it OK to be a shitty rapper as long as you've got the right image and rap about Chanel and watch filled with rocks and shit.

Pac gets part of the blame because most of the rappers who tried to emulate him totally ignored the social commentary side of his songs, focusing entirely on the "thug mentality" aspect and making ignorance a virtue. To be fair, this probably would've happened anyway, since Tup came out of this tradition of mixing gritty street tales with observations on life, etc. and in a way was the last bastion of that sort of stuff.

They're both two of the greatest rappers ever, but to me, their contributions to the genre are way overpraised in light of the damage they did to it. I don't know nothing about the overcommercialization of battle rap, but I'd like to hear more.

Subtle - Midas Gutz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eKb-Vn38Ic)

This song was done as a sort of criticism of the whole 'tough guy' persona and the rap battle scene. Trivia: their frontman, Doseone, made it to the semi-finals of the 98 Scribble Jam which was the same year Eminem did the same thing. I'm really not sure if that means anything though. Apparently Doseone and Patton are in the middle of making lots of music together, just the two of them. The new Subtle album is coming out in Spring (earlier than I expected, woo! I really hope the band doesn't stop making music after finishing the trilogy though) and the pop songs ARE following in the vein of the Mercury Craze in the sense that they're part of the concept while the lyrics are still going to remain along the same lines. And apparently there's going to be a website that coincides with it and helps explain the story in further depth...the concept goes way further on this one than the first two it seems.

Yo, you guys should check this kid out. He's a good friend of mine from high school, who is now in college, on the record, he plays either all the instruments or everything but the drums (he might play drums on a few tracks? I'm still not sure).

He's really, really good, and his music is always really high on my charts. It's not really in any specific genre, but it's kinda indie, kinda punk, and kinda emo. His lyrics are legitimately great, though, and I highly suggest checking him out:

For anyone who may want it:

Jamie Cullum - Pointless Nostalgic (http://www.sendspace.com/file/dgnsjt)

All Music says: British pianist/vocalist Jamie Cullum mixes jazz with melodic pop and rock into a crossover style that calls to mind such artists as Harry Connick, Jr., and Norah Jones. In that vein, Cullum will just as often cover a swinging jazz standard as a modern rock song, and his original compositions deftly move from earnest ballads to songs of sardonic wit.

While so many Harry Connick, Jr. wannabes stick to the standards and limply mimic moves lifted from Frank Sinatra's catalog, Cullum hops from Radiohead to Thelonious Monk with equal verve and accomplishment.

It's a lot of fun to listen to and a generally great record.

Juno Original Soundtrack: http://www.sendspace.com/file/kz8h6q

Enjoy.

I'll put a description up in a minute for those who aren't sure if you want it.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51%2BXLlwbcKL._SS500_.jpg

The soundtrack is the perfect background (and sometimes foreground) to what goes on in the film, but it also stands alone quite nicely. Most of the songs on the album are quiet, indie, folkie, and acoustic, like the Kimya Dawson songs (three of 'em) which are idiosnycractic and wonderful . . . There are, however, also some great classic oldie songs from the Kinks and Buddy Holly and Mott the Hoople which are not acoustic-y folkie, but more raucous and energetic. Go out and enjoy the movie and I'm betting you will come back for the music.

Pavement and Dinosaur Jr are both bands that don't sound nearly as original as they used to, due to the fact that a hundred billion bands since have decided to bite their style. If you can contextualize their music to envision a time when their sound was something that not everybody and their uncles were doing, you might like them better. Of course, I hardly ever get the urge to listen to either band. Anyway, nobody cares.

The Dear Hunter - Act II: The Meaning Of & And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading (http://clanlogic.com/nerve/music/thedearhunter.rar)

Love it or hate it, the Dear Hunter's Act II: The Meaning of, And All Things Regarding, Ms. Leading is certainly a grandiose project filled with ambition. The two act, isolation-themed rock opera is filled with intricate instrumentation and bipolar change-ups that recall Mr. Bungle's California or Mars Volta's De-Loused in the Comatorium with aspects of Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise. The production is phenomenal, and the multi-layered songs feature unexpected dynamic changes, with parts dropping in and out with ease like a camera cutting from one scene to another. Soundscapes change drastically several times within a single number, turning from a guitar-based prog rock blazer to gritty Dixieland, then switching over to a cello and harp concerto . . . Jam-packed with musical ideas and mood shifts, this disc becomes increasingly rewarding after repeated listens and should especially appeal to aspiring producers and musicians.

That last bit should be pretty important. People who play instruments or are the least bit interested in the creation of music and stuff should absolutely check this out. Others who are just interested in hearing some really interesting quasi-prog rock should also get this.

It's free music, there's nothing to lose but disk space that can be recovered.

Use "Add Folder to Library" instead of song. once you click the things enough to get to your music folder , just select it, and import the whole thing. It'll take bloody forever and you generally can't do much at the same time, but it's still easier than what you're doing.

This is true, but it still sounds really cool. When I made the post, I had heard the first half of the cd twice and was getting into the second half. Those first 5 or 6 songs are fucking amazing, though. The shitty puns totally keep me alive, though: The Bitter Suite, Ms. Leading, etc.

EDIT: I counted, it was the first 10 tracks out of 15 that are amazing, and afterwards, it becomes less memorable. Some of the tracks are just... production mastery, seriously. I have to say I wasn't a big fan. I agree completely with nieh's sentiment that it starts off awesome then dwindles, but for me that was the first song or two and after that it sort of became, "why am I listening to this?"

Devin Townsend is almost finished, and after that "Out of Time" and "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" will be uploaded.

Edit for albums:

1.) Devin Townsend - "Biomech" (http://www.sendspace.com/file/y47r0m) --- anyone interested in rock or prog at all should check it out. Track two, "Life," is amazing in my opinion. Oh, and it's name is weird:It was originally released in Japan as Biomech under the moniker Ocean Machine, and was later reissued worldwide as Ocean Machine: Biomech bearing Devin Townsend's name instead.

Yeah, the production is pretty good but the album doesn't compare to California or Illinois level of awesome. With those two the layers of instrumentation were intertwined with the core of the song, so much so that you can tell the songs were written with the instruments in mind right from the beginning, whereas a lot of Act 2 seems like they may've added it simply because they weren't able to make the core songs any more interesting and were trying to counter that. They do still have lots of great stuff popping up here and there as I said (pretty much every song on the first half has at least SOMETHING cool happen at some point), but a lot of the tracks it's like 2-3 minutes of awesome in an 8 minute song where the rest is just good and doesn't necessarily have any logical connection to the awesome part. They do have loads of potential, I just don't think they're meeting it yet.

From what I remember, there aren't any Bad Devi/Ants type of songs. Probably isn't worth downloading if you're only looking forward to finding songs like those two. It's been while since I listened to it, but the only song I remember/like is Life. The rest is pretty meh. The only two Devin Townsend albums worth listening to from beginning to end are Synchestra and Infinity anyways. The rest of his solo stuff hasn't done much for me. Terria has its moments though.

That reminds me of Shadow Gallery, nieh. A couple minutes of awesome in an eight minute song.
Yeah, pretty much. Whenever I'm the mood for Shdow Gallery, I just fast forward to those parts and skip the rest.

Do you have these?

And yes, it's AAE. I explained the lost password etc in the college football thread, but I doubt you read that. I can't put it as my personal title or whatever until 100 posts :(

I'm uploading one of Devin Townsend's more fun projects now, Punky Brüster - Cooked on Phonics (http://www.sendspace.com/file/ir8guw) which came out back in 96.

The album begins in a club called Malone’s where Polish death metal act Cryptic Coroner take to the stage, only to break a string and find themselves improvising pop punk to keep the crowd from attacking them. This introduces the first musical number ‘Recipe For Bait’. Lyrically the song is a crack up as the death metal act spells out their distaste for playing punk. A couple of the albums true highlights are the follow up numbers ‘Fake Punk’ and ‘EZ$$’. The songs are strong enough to stand up on their own, and lyrically really stand out as some of Devin’s greatest sarcastic genius moments.

The spoken word narratives between songs help tie in the concept with the meeting between the band and their old death metal manager rating as one of the silliest (And funniest).

‘Metal Dilemma’, as the name suggests, is as close as the album gets to metal (Especially the ‘Heavy metal now!’ and ‘Give me one more metal yell!’ moments), while ‘Oats, Peas, Beans, & Barley’ has punk/metal written all over it.

‘Wallet Chain’ (Delivered by the classic Indian delivery postal man) is a cheap stab at punk attire, while ‘Heinous Anus’ is a disturbing side effect from nerves after being nominated for a "Granny" Award. The classic scene where Punky Brüster’s vocalist/guitarist Dr. Skinny brings home a groupie who rejects him in disgust when she finds out he is a fan of heavy metal is portrayed perfectly in ‘Heavy Metal Mama’, while ‘Crusty’s At The Ivanhoe’ sees our hero drowning his sorrows following his denied access.

Onto the "Granny" awards, introduced by Entertainment This Hour’s P.J. Littlepricky (revealing guest performances by Anne Murray and Deicide); it is soon revealed that Punky Brüster are the winners of the Lifelong Achievement Award for the best punk rock band (name checking the pioneer punk bands of 1994).

The album then ends with the band performing their most serious number, ‘Picture Of Myself’.

Oh wow. The Dear Hunter album is absolutely amazing. Currently on track five. Loads of fun. I've been pretty disappointed with finding new music this past year so it's nice to finally find something. Even Dream Theater's new album let me down. =\

Do you have these?
Synchestra and Infinity? yeah, i'll get them uploaded later tonight.

This didn't get much attention last time you uploaded it. Hope more people listen to it now that's in this thread. Didn't mention it my last post because it's more of a side project than a solo album. Whatever, still highly recommend it. It's hilarious.

Yeah, it's an awesome album. I love how the songs are legitimately catchy and fun even without the parody aspect taken into account.

The Dear Hunter - Act II: The Meaning Of & And All Things Regarding Ms. Leading (http://clanlogic.com/nerve/music/thedearhunter.rar)

That last bit should be pretty important. People who play instruments or are the least bit interested in the creation of music and stuff should absolutely check this out. Others who are just interested in hearing some really interesting quasi-prog rock should also get this.

It's free music, there's nothing to lose but disk space that can be recovered.

I downloaded it, and I like it so far. It's musically more interesting than a lot of stuff being produced these days, and I think upon more listenings I could grow to appreciate the lyrics. I haven't gotten through the entire album, so my opinion could change. But I'm definitely nowhere close to thinking it's one of the best albums I've ever heard. It actually reminds me in some ways of the Juliana Theory, who I do like (their older stuff, anyway). But I like that the songs are pretty diverse, and there are varying moods. So far, so good.

So I recently lost all of the music on my computer. It would help me greatly if someone could upload Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour by the Beatles. That will be all for now.

Yeah, claiming it (The Dear Hunter's Act II) was one of the best albums I ever heard was jumping the gun a little too soon.

When I got it, I happened to be desperately in the mood for that exact type of music (Mars Volta minus the awful) and I was very happy to find a cd that managed to fill whatever I was hoping for. Since Saturday, I haven't felt like listening to it or anything similar to it, but we'll see how it goes.

I still really like it, though, and think I need to listen to it a little more. His lyrics, unfortunately, I think are really cheesy and lame.

(Mars Volta minus the awful)

I think they have a new album out tomorrow. I heard the single once and thought it was alright; Cedric actually sang and didn't just yelp randomly like he did on their last one so that was a huge improvement. I can't remember for the life of me how the rest of the song sounded, though.

Yeah that's right, I used a fucking semi-colon in casual conversation.

I've had the album for a couple weeks. I thought it was already out. I like some Mars Volta I have heard but the songs just go on 5 minutes to long. The new album however doesn't and I enjoy it.

Alright, I'm really not a fan of Foo Fighters, but I've heard this song on the radio a few times, and it's really damn good... I'm like 90% it's them... sounds like Dave. But the lyrics go:

What if I say I'm not like the others
What if I say I'm not just another one of your [???????]
What if I say I'll never surrender

If anyone knows what this song is, can you plleeeease upload it for me? Thanks!

I caved and picked it up after work today and it's alright so far, but it sounds like the band was locked in a room full of instruments, silly sci-fi phasers, silly vocal effects and said "I have a great idea! Let's use all of these things ALL THE TIME!!!!". And I agree with you about most of their songs going on too long in regards to their second and third album (their second one didn't have a single song that was good from beginning to end), but their first one was fantastic and even the longer songs totally justify themselves (ok, maybe that spacey part in Cicatriz ESP could've been trimmed a little bit, but I still like it fine the way it is).

Foo Fighters and The Colour and the Shape are the only two albums that have songs I like (mostly Baker Street, Everlong, Monkey Wrench). I also have There is Nothing Left to Lose, One by One, and In Your Honor... they all suck. But I really like this song. A lot.

The Mars Volta - The Bedlam In Goliath (http://www.sendspace.com/file/vs89l3)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7f/Bedlam.PNG

It sounds pretty good, actually. It's like... kinda funkier with a sort of delve back into their punk roots.

I can actually listen to this album all the way through, which is always a plus.

Yeah, the music never gets offensive to my ears like Frances did, and the fact that it sounds like Cedric actually came up with vocal lines (even though the vocal effects make some of them sound really silly) unlike their last album is a nice step up. I like the fact that it sounds nothing like Deloused, otherwise I would just wind up comparing it to it and it would lose. It's not a bad album but someone seriously needs to take away their effects, they use them entirely too much and it ends up just sounding silly a lot of the time. And it would be nice if they weren't trying to cram everything into every second of every song. I think it would be a good idea for them to start working with outside producers again (Deloused was the only album they had with an outside producer) instead of Omar doing everything do they have someone else involved that can restrain them a bit.

Mastodon - Blood Mountain - http://www.sendspace.com/file/852zi9

Blood Mountain is everything fans both hoped for and feared. Mastodon has dug even deeper in its foray into prog metal, but without losing an ounce of their power, literacy, or willingness to indulge in hardcore punk, doom, and death metal. Like Leviathan, Blood Mountain is both melodic and downright raging in places. Matt Bayles is in the producer's chair once more and he's encouraged this Georgia quartet — Bränn Dailor (drums), Brent Hinds (guitar and vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar and vocals), and Troy Sanders (bass and vocals) — to take it to the limit. And they have. Blood Mountain indulges and goes deep into the territory of prog metal beats and quests and spiritual revelations that have less to do with Tolkein-ism and more to do with Conan-ism. There are utterly beautiful melodic passages woven into the heaviness that are reminiscent of Thin Lizzy's dual guitar lyricism

let me use this post to ask for the Kyuss album Muchas Gracias plz kthxbye

haha, I'll keep look out for it, but no one else here really, really listens to them like I do, so I doubt you'll get much help from us.

Do you already have their split EP with the O Pioneers? It's available on QUQR, but not the Bomb! website. It's actually really good.

EDIT: I found this, http://www.purevolume.com/bombtherickjohnsonrockandrollmusicindustrymachine it has one song from the BTMI! side and one from the Rick Johnson side of the split. I'll keep looking for more because this isn't nearly as bad as it sounded on the version I heard.
