Does anyone have Carcinogen Crush by AFI? I'm not sure if I asked for the song before, but I don't have it now. And if it's at all possible, please don't upload an audio rip of someone playing the song in Guitar Hero 3.

I actually don't care for the band much at all outside of "Break on Through" and "People Are Strange". Maybe you'll like them better.

weee, thanks. i love *people are strange* (ty, *Lost Boys*). but i watched the movie with the mens a while back and really enjoyed it, so i figured why not actually listen to their music more than just in passing.

Actually, the song is all I need; the CD won't be out for months, so that was not your mistake, it was my mistake in requesting it. So the single itself will be fine.

If you find a leaked album somewhere, you can send it on along, though. But for now I'll take it. Woo!

I don't know if there is one. I was just assuming there was from your post.

Wow. That was a whole lot more complicated than it should have been.

Also, I've been listening to The Best Revenge on repeat ever since I started listening to it for the first time about 15 minutes ago. Holy shit. The Odyssey is going to the top of my "must listen" list.

Edit: Holy fucking shit I love this. Omg. Omg omg omg. omggggggggg. Do they have any other albums? Or anything else at all? I must know!

They have one previous album, but aside from one song, it's seriously horrible :( Do you still want it? I can upload it for you.

But I'm so glad I'm not the only one who realizes how goddamned mindblowing Odyssey is!!! I'm also glad that you and Wally both adore "Happy" as much as I do; even in Fischerspooner fan circles that song does NOT get enough recognition as the unbelievable masterpiece it is.

ps. You should check out the music video for "Never Win". It's awesomely awesome.

So, I've been creating a series of electro synthy dancy clashy mixes for people since 2005. I'm well known for it in IRL. They're called the "Dope Beatz" series, and I've created 5 so far (the 5th one was created tonight). They're unbelievably popular at my school and most jobs I've had.

I've finally made a few .zip files of all of 'em. If you're interested in checking them out, either let me know here or through PM. I'd be happy to share them under one condition: you listen to the songs IN THE ORDER I PUT THEM!!! A tracklist is included in each .zip file.

FU you guys for ignoring my thread (http://offspring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31451) again. Whatever, I'm about to upload another album of his which I think is much better than the one I have in the Bobby Conn thread.

As usual, I suck at describing music so I'm just gonna throw in a random amazon review. Actually, it isn't that great of description, but it's the best one out of the four =\
For those of you who are unfamillar with the pocket sized perverted genius that is Bobby Conn, all I can say is brace yourself for the twisted brilliance of "Rise Up." A freaky voyage through the mind of a man who's music resembles the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg at his most provocative channeled through Frank Zappa doing his best Yoko Ono impression.

Forget all the regurgitated reverberated sounds of the "Next Big thing"'s singing their "music by number" renditions of proto-punk, and check out something truly original. Singing in a fantastic falsetto, akin to the preacher man himself Curtis Mayfield, Bobby tells us tales of the ominous armageddon, and the fact that he is of course the second comming."Rise Up", is an album consisting of anti-capatalist, satinistic preachings all coated in a psychedellic, funk-punk shell.

Some of the finer utterances of this lunatic lyricist include "United Nations under the rule of Satan" and "Jesus Christ, he came back, Jesus Christ high on crack" which eminates from the tittle track.

With Wing's "Live and let die" as a blue print, and his own miniscule attention span "Rise Up" is an excitingly eclectic epic of an album. To be listened to in solitude, sparingly, for fear its sheer brilliance may infect your soul. Not to everyones tastes, but as Dionne may have said "what the world needs now is a meglomaniac rock'n'roll preacher" to liven up today's stagnant sonic spectrum.
Basically, it's a fun, wacky, and weird album with tons of random genres thrown in except metal.

Here's a few samples. I'm in the process of uploading the whole album. Will edit in a bit.

I just wanted to mention that I downloaded that Fischerspooner album, and listened to it I think 3 times. I rather liked it. Some of the songs have pretty interesting lyrical themes, and I like the overall sound of the band. However, I found their sound to become somewhat monotonous over the course of a full album. It's not to say that all their songs sound alike... it's just like listening to a Cake album for me, though. There is a lot within their sound that always sounds the same, and in some bands that works... but for this, it's maybe too much. Their sound is unique, but I don't feel like they do enough with it, I suppose. I'll say that I'll listen to this album more in the future, but I'm not sure I'm able to orgasm over it like AAE and Ricky were doing :P

What is known to be "the greatest jazz show ever recorded."

It has:

Dizzy Gillespie - Trumpet
Charles Mingus - Bass
Charlie Parker - Alto Saxophone
Bud Powell - Piano
Max Roach - Drums

They play a bunch of pretty awesome tracks. It basically rules. Parker is playing on, like, a fake/plastic saxophone for the whole thing because he had sold his earlier that day for drugs. Rawk.

Uh, I mean, jazz.

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam (http://www.sendspace.com/file/j36kvb)

The Baltimore-bred, Brooklyn-based Animal Collective have made a name for themselves by being something wholly other. Their music is convoluted, ecstatic, cluttered, noisy, scratchy, itchy and downright fun. Sounds are layered on sounds are layered on sounds and are then separated seemingly at random. But Avey Tare and Panda Bear know exactly what they are doing. There isn't anything remotely excessive about AC's excess. They have, until now, presented a holistic view of the individual through the guise of consensus-building pop noiseadelia. With Strawberry Jam, the orgiastic aural carnival sideshow begins to change a bit. There is a growing tension at work here in the music.

He only referred to himself as "Spratz" in the very beginning, preferring "Sparx" shortly after he released the self-titled.

I think Apathy wanted this:

Les Claypool's Frog Brigade - Purple Onion (http://www.sendspace.com/file/0fnst2)
For his first post-Primus solo studio release, Les Claypool sounds exactly like...Les Claypool. That's certainly not a surprise. He uses core members of his touring Frog Brigade, such as longtime drummer Jay Lane, guitarist Eenor, saxophonist Skerik, and percussionist Mike Dillon. It is this latter musician who provides much aid in adding depth to Claypool's slaphappy sound, infusing the songs with shimmering vibraphone counterpoints. Claypool himself is in particularly fine and playful form, with the winged monkeys-like chant at the center of "David Makalaster" and the socially conscious stoned wisdom of "Ding Dong." The music isn't nearly as edgy or angular as his work with Primus, but that's ultimately okay. Guitarist Eenor provides a slightly more accessible (though still utterly weird) guitar complement to Claypool than his Primus counterpart, Larry LaLonde. This isn't simply watered down Primus, though.

Also, a quick google search yields:

Pavement

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: http://www.mediafire.com/?0g4ftwd0mdv
Slanted and Enchanted: http://www.mediafire.com/?7wxjzkz19tq

I got the Deep Puddle Dynamics album and Why? - Oaklandazulasylum if you want either. Deep Puddle Dynamics has a decent groove through most of the album but never really did anything to wow me on first listen. Why? is actually mostly indie/folk/electronic and has only occasional hip hop influence despite being part of the anticon. I think it's about on the same level as the DPD album, but it actually has at least a few standout tracks.

This is going to come out of left field and be kind of vague I know, but:

I've been getting into more acoustic/folky music lately. Problem is, I don't really have a lot knowledge of the genre or of the artists--except for Bob Dylan. So, would any of you guys that know more folk artists than I do be willing to upload some of your favorite stuff? I'm not picky.

Review by AMG
The Milk-Eyed Mender was a striking debut that set Joanna Newsom apart from her indie folk contemporaries. Its simplicity and depth, and the way it sounded timeless and fresh, made her a singular figure in that scene. On her second album, Ys (pronounced "ease"), she continues to move in a very different direction than her peers, and even a different one than what her audience might expect. The Milk-Eyed Mender's 12 gentle vignettes sounded like they were basking in sunlight; Ys is epic, restless, and demanding, made up of five dazzling, shape-shifting songs that range from seven to 16 minutes long. Newsom embarks on this adventure of an album with help from talents as diverse as engineer Steve Albini, arranger Van Dyke Parks, and producer Jim O'Rourke (who, come to think of it, is the perfect meeting point between Albini and Parks). Ys' boldly intricate sound plays like an embellished, illuminated, expanded version of Newsom's previous work. Parks' lavish, but never intrusive, orchestral arrangements sometimes make the album feel -- in the best possible way -- like a Broadway musical based on The Milk-Eyed Mender, particularly on the album closer, "Cosmia." Crucially, though, Ys isn't any less "real" than Newsom's other music just because it's more polished. The nature and craft imagery in her lyrics, the transporting sense of wonder and the one-of-a-kind voice of The Milk-Eyed Mender are here too, just in a much more refined and ambitious form: Ys is a gilt-edged, bone china teacup to Mender's earthenware mug.

Along with the beautifully filigreed arrangements and melodies, which mingle strings, jew's-harps, and spaghetti Western horns with Appalachian, Celtic, and even Asian influences, the album shows Newsom's development as a singer. She has more nuance and control, particularly over the keening edge of her voice, which is recorded so clearly that when it cracks, it tears the air like a tangible exclamation point. Ys' daring, plentiful wordplay makes it even more of a rarity: an extremely musically accomplished album with lyrics to match. On "Only Skin" alone, Newsom goes from rhyming "fishin' poles" with "swimmin' holes" to "heartbroken, inchoate." These songs are so full of words and plot twists that sometimes it feels more like you're reading them instead of listening to them, and indeed, actually reading the lyrics in the book-like liner notes reveals that Ys has a library's worth of children's stories, myths, romances, and of course, fairy tales woven into its words. As the album unfolds, it seems like Newsom can't get more ambitious (and more importantly, pull it off), but with each song, she does. Two of the best moments: the darkly whimsical fable "Monkey & Bear," a forest romp that boasts some of the album's best storytelling and some of Parks' liveliest arrangements, and "Sawdust & Diamonds," which is surreally sensual and coltish, with surprisingly direct lyrics: "From the top of the flight/Of the wide, white stairs/For the rest of my life/Do you wait for me there?" Ys isn't exactly a reinvention of Newsom's music, but it's so impressive that it's like a reintroduction to what makes her talent so special. Its breathtaking scope makes it a sometimes bewildering embarrassment of riches, or as one of "The Monkey and the Bear"'s lyrics puts it, "a table ceaselessly being set." Yes, Ys is a demanding listen, but it's also a rewarding and inspiring one. Letting it unfold and absorbing more each time you hear it is a delight.

So, apparently Mike Patton did the soundtrack for a short film. You can get both the movie and the soundtrack in a single package for like $14. I uploaded the soundtrack in case anyone wants to check it out. It's actually really good. It's all over the place stylistically of course, but it's mostly rooted in kind of noir-ish jazz. Aside from the percussion on a few songs (provided by DAVID HEIFETZ FROM MR. BUNGLE ZOMG! and some other guy) and some studio horn-players, he played pretty much everything himself (mostly using samples on a keyboard, but it sounds really good).

Yo, llamas: Cassadaga is not a comparitively good Bright Eyes cd; however, this one is fucking mindblowing:

http://spot.colorado.edu/~heathwoo/images/Bright_Eyes_-_Lifted.jpg
Bright Eyes - Lifted or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground (http://www.sendspace.com/file/cbwo6u)

When Bright Eyes brainchild Conor Oberst issued Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground in August 2002, he was 22 years old. Critics were already calling him the "indie Bob Dylan," but the new millennium had seen a lot of those introverted, intelligent types (Ryan Adams, Beck). Bright Eyes, though, delivered a solid, intricately produced album without the majors' monotony. Immediately, one can sense Oberst's literate approach. His vocal curdle is abrasive yet warm. It's similar to the cooing of Robert Smith, but lush in heartache like Paul Westerberg, leaving the storybook of Lifted or The Story to earn massive praise. "Waste of Paint" is rough-cut with edgy acoustics, while "From a Balance Beam" glows with pop-like optimism. Chimes and simple drumming keep the story of personal insecurity and the fear of the unknown coming alive in a dreamy sort of way. Even when he's aching his way through the pop rumble of "Method Acting," Bright Eyes convincingly lures one into his eclectic musical world. Oberst obviously has the talent to support the hype. "Lover I Don't Have to Love" is a dark number with its Radiohead-like doom and gloom; however, the piano swirl of "A Bowl of Oranges" offers a brighter reflection. On Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground, Bright Eyes has mixed badness with beauty for a sonic storybook that relates to everyone. It's slightly overwhelming at first, but one must allow a grace period to fully absorb the abstract desire behind this album.

Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorite albums ever.

Nas - Illmatic (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0H7VBJX1)

Often cited as one of the best hip-hop albums of the '90s, Illmatic is the undisputed classic upon which Nas' reputation rests. It helped spearhead the artistic renaissance of New York hip-hop in the post-Chronic era, leading a return to street aesthetics. Yet even if Illmatic marks the beginning of a shift away from Native Tongues-inspired alternative rap, it's strongly rooted in that sensibility. For one, Nas employs some of the most sophisticated jazz-rap producers around: Q-Tip, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and Large Professor, who underpin their intricate loops with appropriately tough beats. But more importantly, Nas takes his place as one of hip-hop's greatest street poets -- his rhymes are highly literate, his raps superbly fluid regardless of the size of his vocabulary. He's able to evoke the bleak reality of ghetto life without losing hope or forgetting the good times, which become all the more precious when any day could be your last. As a narrator, he doesn't get too caught up in the darker side of life -- he's simply describing what he sees in the world around him, and trying to live it up while he can. He's thoughtful but ambitious, announcing on "N.Y. State of Mind" that "I never sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death," and that he's "out for dead presidents to represent me" on "The World Is Yours." Elsewhere, he flexes his storytelling muscles on the classic cuts "Life's a Bitch" and "One Love," the latter a detailed report to a close friend in prison about how allegiances within their group have shifted. Hip-hop fans accustomed to 73-minute opuses sometimes complain about Illmatic's brevity, but even if it leaves you wanting more, it's also one of the few '90s rap albums with absolutely no wasted space. Illmatic is a great lyricist, in top form, meeting great production, and it remains a perennial favorite among serious hip-hop fans.

Whatever, I still think "Shoot 'em Up" is his best song.
