What's the word on water conservation there?
To be honest, I actually wouldn't mind a fairly significant disaster happening (one that doesn't result in a significant loss of life). Not specifically to you, or Atlanta, but just in general. People just don't grasp the seriousness of water conservation, particularly in the West, and the sooner a wake-up call occurs the better, though Americans are god-awful at personal sacrifice.

We've gotten 20 inches of rain this year, as opposed to the average of 50, when coming into this year we were already negative in water storage I guess. We've been in "Level Four Drout" for at least a couple weeks, meaning no outdoor usage, etc. There's a local spring that's just about to dry up, so now the level of drinking water is seriously in danger because I'm sure that more springs around the area are too. Next option would be either kill the mussels and fishies, like in that article, or cut back on water used by big factories, which would kill the entire economy of this area.

Americans have quite a luxurious consumption of water compared to Europeans. What they should do is just raise the price of the water you get through the taps. You don't need to shower for half an hour, and you don't need to have the water running for the entire course of a shower (I do anyways, but the water consumption of the building I live in is averaged out between the other 151 people who live here so it doesn't matter.)

That wouldn't bring back 30 inches of rain annually that we're not getting. This is way beyond what you're talking about. If you use too much water through the taps you get a letter, and the second time you get a fee, and that's been going on for a few months. Watering the plants and such has been limited for months and now eliminated for the last two weeks.
