View Full Version : Fires are destroying my town.
There is like 4 huge wildfires in my town. The wind is fucking insane. My friend got evacuated from my home. The fire is like 200 yards from the local high school. 6 houses have been destroyed in the past hour.

Hot, dry weather I'd assume. I'm hoping TBD has a laptop and will keep us updated, using surviving wireless access points if necessary.
It hasn't rained here in a few months. The wind is incredible the past few days. They shut down part of the freeway for wind. I was driving last night and had to hold on tight with two hands because my light car was getting really shaky in the wind. The lack of rain, along with incredible wind and a lot of brushy dry areas=fire heaven.

I have yet to understand why people feel the need to preface "chaps" with "assless". Seems pretty redundant... all chaps are are just a belt piece and leg covers...
Anyway, quitcherbitchin. Global warming is fun times for all.

Yeah, but "assless" is meant to emphasize that the chaps are the only thing a person is wearing. For instance, if you and your friend were to, say, stumble into what you think is a redneck bar and only after ordering a beer, glance over and notice that the group of guys playing darts in the corner are doing so while wearing assless chaps, you'll be sure to henceforth refer to the bar with your friend as "the place with the guys wearing the assless chaps."

Where do you live,TBD?
I suppose not in one of the evacuation areas.
Cause those fires have grown incredibly fast, and the fucking wind isn't helping at all.
The air is awful. And the sky is soooo dark over here too.
Do you know which areas has it reached?
Take care, TBD.
and tell us if you get news about the fires stopping or anything.

What he said. People could say "pantsless chaps", but that doesn't quite have the same ring to it. When a man wears assless chaps, his cheeks are bared to the world.

All of Southern California is, apparently, squirrel-handed.
Well the question should be asked....have you done anything to help the firefighters?
Yes I intentionally did not drive last night to keep the fucking roads clear like they requested that everyone in the city do so the emergency vehicles can get where they need to go.
Theres a fucking brand new fire. They just shut down the interstate.
BustedKnuckles

The reason why I ask this question is because from where I'm from we have to make sure that our area has been cleared of brush and we are free to try to help put the fires out.

I don't know if you've been to Southern California, but I think it's a much different situation. Completely regardless, it's a little late to go brush clearing when everything is on fire, so it's not helpful to say things like "well what are you doing to help?"
If they shut down the interstate then how are you supposed to get the fuck out of there?
Um, yeah, exactly. Unless you already got the fuck out of there? Right?

This made me laugh quite hard.
so it's not helpful to say things like "well what are you doing to help?"
No shit it's not helpful. I'm sitting on a computer 1500 miles away and am just curious as to what goes on down there when a fire happens because I know what happens here. Lay off would ya?

I have a question: What is the normal speed of the Santa Anna winds? On CNN they said that they approached 70 mph which to me is amazing. Here we deal with 20-30mph at the most, maybe gusting to 50mph. But 70? That's insane.

For the last couple of days, they weren't consistently at 70 mph. It was more like super charged gusts. Which doesn't help in the least.
Oh, I live in Irvine about 20 miles from the Santiago Canyon fire, if anyone cares. Luckily, I haven't had to evacuate yet.

the updated county maps as of half an hour ago say that the house is *just* on the outside of the fire parameter. like, we have a creek / canyon thing a hundred feet behind the house, and that's probably where the fire stopped.
a friend of my dad's, who owns the plot just below ours, is currently trying to get through the road blocks and shit to see what's up.
I hope everything turns out ok.
